Horse Welfare Comes First at Brighton
The safety of horse and rider is of paramount importance to Brighton
Racecourse. We have a team of highly qualified vets and doctors following the action at all times and a horse ambulance in attendance at every meeting.
It is policy at this racecourse for screens to be erected when a horse requires veterinary treatment on the track. This is to offer some privacy and calm for both horse and vet and does not automatically imply that a fatality has occurred
Equine care at Brighton is provided by Sussex Equine Hospital. To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website: www.brighton-racecourse.co.uk
Radios and Mobile Telephones
The use of all types of communication equipment is strictly controlled at all racecourses. Members of the public may not use two-way radios, scanning receivers etc., for any purpose at the racecourse. Mobile telephones may not be used in or near any designated betting area, or for offcourse betting purposes Further details are available from the racecourse office.
Photography
Racegoers may take photographs for private purposes in the Grandstand & Paddock and Premier Enclosure. Under no circumstances may photographs taken on the Racecourse be used for publication. Flash photography is extremely dangerous where horses are involved and we kindly ask you not to use flash photography anywhere in the Paddock or near the Winners’ Enclosure.

Star Ratings Explained
Br
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race
HHHHI Good chance of being placed.
HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances)
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating

LEADING COURSE TRAINER (17-22): T Carroll (55 wins from 437 runners, 13%) runs KONDRATIEV WAVE
TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): T Carroll (5 wins from 49 runners, 10%) runs KONDRATIEV WAVE
WEIGHTWATCHER: HEER’S SADIE won off a handicap mark of 56, her rating is now down 6lb to 50.
LONGEST TRAVELLER: KONDRATIEV WAVE trained by T Carroll, Cropthorne, 175 miles.
Just as they did over C&D last week, RAVI ROAD and Voodoo Ray are taken to fight out the finish. The latter emerged on top that day but it could be a different outcome this time given that Ravi Road is 5lb better off having been beaten less than a length by Gary Moore’s charge. The booking of Tom Marquand adds to the selection’s appeal. No Turning Back is unexposed on turf and is third choice, while several of others would be dangerous off their present marks if able to scale a revival.
