It is policy at this racecourse for screens to be erected when a horse requires veterinary treatment on the track. This is to offer some privacy and calm for both horse and vet and does not automatically imply that a fatality has occurred
Equine care at Brighton is provided by Sussex Equine Hospital. To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website: www.brighton-racecourse.co.uk

Star Ratings Explained
Br
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race
HHHHI Good chance of being placed.
HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances)
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating

LONGEST TRAVELLER: KING ELVIS trained by T Carroll, Cropthorne, 175 miles.
The reliable LIOSA is fancied to build on his promising start for Stuart Kittow and get off the mark at the chief expense of C&D winner Mister X, who could be a big threat if the fitting of a visor ekes out some improvement. In-form Morboka is another to consider
Can give a good account.

RACE SUMMARY
AstronghandforformerAROchampiontrainerJamesOwen, whosethoroughbreds are also in good form of late. Upstart Crow is seeking a hat-trick and with conditions to suit, must go close. Stablemates Mayfair and Heritage Valentino were hot on his heels last time and Heritage Valentino could find more now tried in a visor However a chance is taken that JAAHEZ continues to behave in the stalls and having plummeted down the handicap, can get back to winning ways off this mark in this lesser company

Br Shadwell France SNC V
Dual 1m2f winner on the Tapeta and on quick Turf in Holland wearing a hood. Placed in better company last term off a higher mark. Concern he failed to load here last August in first time visor though ridden by stable amateur today who should have his measure. Chance (R22 W2 P11) (OR 65)

Ch G Madjani (FR) - Our Dream (GB) (Our Machine (US)) Mohammed Tabti (3) Raffles Partnership Mr P J Hammersley

Keen on reappearance in a novice over this trip on quick ground. Though well beaten the winner of that contest looks to have Group races on her agenda, so he could go well if settling better today. Place possibilities. (R2 W0 P2) (OR 60)

Winner over 1m2f last season in blinkers and placed twice behind Upstart Crow this term with headgear left off. Still higher than his winning mark, but races prominently and interesting if first-time visor sharpens him up further.(R10 W1 P5) (OR 50)
