Admission Policy

The Management reserves the right to refuse admission to, or expel any person from the racecourse without assigning a reason for so doing, and does not accept any responsibility for loss or damage to persons or to their property

Emergency Procedures for your safety

Should an incident occur which is beyond our control, it is important that you are aware of how we intend to look after you. As part of our safety management, we have employed professionally trained and experienced security staff to be located at various points throughout the Racecourse. This information is precautionary and we trust the procedures will not be needed Please remember in the event of an emergency, to take your belongings with you and under the direction of Brighton Racecourse representatives, proceed quickly and quietly to the agreed area.

Horse Welfare Comes First at Brighton

The safety of horse and rider is of paramount importance to Brighton

Racecourse. We have a team of highly qualified vets and doctors following the action at all times and a horse ambulance in attendance at every meeting.

It is policy at this racecourse for screens to be erected when a horse requires veterinary treatment on the track. This is to offer some privacy and calm for both horse and vet and does not automatically imply that a fatality has occurred

Equine care at Brighton is provided by Sussex Equine Hospital. To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website: www.brighton-racecourse.co.uk

Radios and Mobile Telephones

The use of all types of communication equipment is strictly controlled at all racecourses. Members of the public may not use two-way radios, scanning receivers etc., for any purpose at the racecourse. Mobile telephones may not be used in or near any designated betting area, or for offcourse betting purposes Further details are available from the racecourse office.

Photography

Racegoers may take photographs for private purposes in the Grandstand & Paddock and Premier Enclosure. Under no circumstances may photographs taken on the Racecourse be used for publication. Flash photography is extremely dangerous where horses are involved and we kindly ask you not to use flash photography anywhere in the Paddock or near the Winners’ Enclosure.

Taxi

A complimentary telephone is available in the Racecourse Reception to book taxis. Alternatively, racegoers can call Streamline Taxis on 01273 202020

It is advisable to book as far in advance as possible to avoid any delay.

HBLB Prize Money

The Horserace Betting Levy Board prize fund schemes provide for the estimated inclusion of £266,980 in ratecard and incremental prize money at this racecourse from May to August 2023.

Star Ratings Explained

Br

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race

HHHHI Good chance of being placed.

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances)

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating

THE AFRICAN QUEEN is bred to be suited by a bit further than this trip in time, but she’s with a top yard and makes her debut in a winnable affair, so she gets the marginal vote over Vice Captain, who sets the standard but has a tame run at Beverley to shrug off after a quick turnaround. Etihad Rail is also worthy of respect on his first outing for a new stable.

CHIPS AND RICE came up short when sent off favourite for a Kempton handicap recently but that was a stronger race than this and she is taken to regain the winning thread. James Fanshawe’s charge may have most to fear from Ermin Street, who looks dangerous off this career-low mark, for all that he needs to bounce back following a low-key display at Newbury Mrembo hit the target last time and is respected up 3lb, while Forward Flight should also have a part to play

The UAE President Cup series is the oldest Purebred Arabian classic series, with 15 races scheduled across Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and the United States of America in 2023. In 2023, the UAE President Cup series celebrates its 30th year of global competition.
