Good afternoon and welcome to Brighton Racecourse, and to the second day of the Star Sports Festival of Racing.
This afternoon sees the return of Ladies Day at Brighton Racecourse. We will be hosting a Best Dressed competition today, where the winner will receive a fantastic £500! This will be located outside our Information Kiosk, with the finalists showcased and winner announced after the fourth race in the Parade Ring. This competition closes at 14:45, so please don’t forget to enter
We have the wonderful Electric Hair on site, located near the marquee, as well as a roaming band and Charleston dancers for you to enjoy throughout the day.
We are delighted to be able to support our local greyhound trust, Brighton Greyhounds, so please do go and say hello to some of our four-legged friends this afternoon by our Grandstand entrance.
Alongside all of the above, don’t forget to see the horses in the paddock before each of our six races this afternoon. Nine runners head to post at 16:00 for today’s feature race; the Class 4 Star Sports Brighton Challenge Cup Handicap, including last year’s third and fourth placed horses; the Tony Newcombe-trained Bug Boy and John O’Shea-trained Dundory.
Thank you to our sponsors for their continued support; Star Sports Property.
We hope you have a fantastic day and look forward to welcoming you back soon. We return for more racing action tomorrow, the final day of the Star Sports Festival of Racing.

Star Ratings Explained
Br
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race
HHHHI Good chance of being placed.
HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances)
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating

VOODOO RAY showed much improved from to win a C&D handicap on his penultimate outing and shaped at least as well in defeat under an overly-aggressive ride here last time, so sets a decent standard in this low-grade contest. No Turning Back ran well when second over C&D last month and merits respect, whilst Madrinho seems slightly more trustworthy at Brighton than elsewhere and can give also give a good account.
