Good afternoon and welcome to Brighton Racecourse, and to the final day of the Star Sports Festival of Racing.
We have seven exciting races lined up this afternoon, which includes six thoroughbred races and an arabian race as our final race. Our feature race this afternoon; The Class 4 Harry Bloom Memorial Brighton Bullet Handicap sees 14 runners head to post at 16:00. Being over 6f, this contest is certainly one for the speed merchants. Last year’s leading trainer at Brighton, Tony Carroll, sends two runners in this contest; Bezzas Lad & Holbache to try and reclaim the trophy from his last success in 2018 with Pour La Victoire, our 11 times course winner
We are delighted to be able to support our local greyhound trust, Brighton Greyhounds, so please do go and say hello to some of our four-legged friends this afternoon by our Grandstand entrance.
Thank you to our sponsors for their continued support; Star Sports, the Bloom Family and Bennetts.
We also thank Richard Soan for once again hosting a wonderful marquee charity event in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust.
We hope you have a fantastic day and look forward to welcoming you back soon. Looking ahead, our next fixture here is on Monday 21st August.
Paul Ellison Executive Director
Brighton Racecourse is part of Arena Racing Company which includes; Bath, Chepstow, Doncaster, Ffos Las, Fontwell Park, Great Yarmouth Hereford Lingfield Park, Newcastle, Royal Windsor Sedgefield, Southwell Uttoxeter, Worcester and Wolverhampton racecourses.

Horse Welfare Comes First at Brighton
The safety of horse and rider is of paramount importance to Brighton
Racecourse. We have a team of highly qualified vets and doctors following the action at all times and a horse ambulance in attendance at every meeting.
It is policy at this racecourse for screens to be erected when a horse requires veterinary treatment on the track. This is to offer some privacy and calm for both horse and vet and does not automatically imply that a fatality has occurred
Equine care at Brighton is provided by Sussex Equine Hospital. To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website: www.brighton-racecourse.co.uk

Star Ratings Explained
Br
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race
HHHHI Good chance of being placed.
HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances)
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating

The Harry Bloom Memorial Trophy
Harry Bloom was born in London and moved to Hove with his wife Clare in 1946. He started a small motor trading business that flourished into four branches; later he and his four sons ventured into the hotel and catering business, including buying the Langfords and Imperial hotels.
In 1971 he joined the board of Brighton & Hove Football Club as Vice Chairman. His appointment culminated in his lasting legacy to the club in his nine years by creating a hugely successful lottery.
Harry passed away in January 1980 at the age of 71 and his success in many commercial ventures made Harry one of the most successful and well known businessmen in Brighton & Hove.
Following in the footsteps of his Grandfather, Tony joined the board in 2009 when he became chairman. His appointment brought a vital infusion of financial backing culminating in the development of the architecturally beautiful American Express Community Stadium, which opened in July 2011.
The entire family are fanatical Brighton & Hove Albion supporters and they are once again at the forefront in supporting local sport by sponsoring this afternoon’s race and will be presenting the Harry Bloom Memorial Trophy to the owner of the winning horse.

RACE SUMMARY Quite a trappy contest, however five-time ARO top trainer James Owen is the current leader with the breed and has a 38% strike rate with his thoroughbred string this term too. Distance winner Heritage Valentino has placed twice this season, including over this trip and can be forgiven his poor recent run tried in a visor However Owen’s amateurs give a useful weight advantage to the unexposed VICTORIA and Delicatesse on their handicap debuts, with the former a tentative pick. Al-Hatab is another young horse going the right way and looks to have each way claims.

Good step forward when second in a novice event (Delicatesse 4th), last time. Was getting an allowance and though nearly ten lengths off the winner, that one looks smart and has won again. Dam stayed well and open to further improvement on handicap debut, up in trip (R2 W0 P1) (OR 52)

First foal Similar profile to stablemate Victoria, though hasn’t looked quite so forward in her races to date Dam a winner at this trip and shorter, here and in the US and underused sire gets winners at this trip too. Stable amateur is also 4 from 4 on Arabians (R2 W0 P1) (OR 51)

Well into veteran stage, however placed in all six starts for amateur pilot last season Lacked enthusiasm this term in two runs on quick, but slight drop in grade and mark, combined with easier ground may help his place chances (R42 W2 P19) (OR 48)

Distance winner last season in blinkers and placed twice this term with headgear left off. Disappointed here last time tried in visors and though still three pounds higher than last winning mark, this is the least competitive contest he’s been in this term, back up in trip (R11 W1 P5) (OR 48)

AW winner over 2f further for today’s jockey last season (Aljawaaher 2nd, Heritage Valentino 3rd) in first time blinkers and is back on the same mark today. Hasn’t made the frame since however and suspicion is that he needs a greater stamina test than his brother, Heritage Valentino. (R6 W1 P0) (OR 45)

Staying on third behind two useful types here last time over a mile in a higher grade. Has looked quite green and though beaten in two previous attempts at this trip, pedigree suggests it should suit, as patient trainer scored with his brother and dam over this distance and further.
