FIRST RACE 1.20 TWO MILES ABOUT THREE AND A HALF FURLONGS (2M 3F 100YDS) FOR MAIDEN FOUR YRS OLD AND UPWARDS

THE PICKWICK BOOKMAKERS MAIDEN HURDLE RACE (CLASS 4) (DIV I) (GBB RACE) Total race value £7500 x Owners Prize Money. 1st £3130, 2nd £1565, 3rd £782, 4th £392. (Penalty Value £4084.50)

RACE STATS LEADING COURSE TRAINER (16-21): P Nicholls (47 wins from 183 runners, 26%) runs MR GLASS TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): A King (7 wins from 33 runners, 21%) runs HAZARD COLLONGES FANCY THAT: A King won this race in 2016 & 2018. The stable runs HAZARD COLLONGES today. LONGEST TRAVELLER: BALLYGOE trained by C Down, Cullompton, 77 miles. RACE SUMMARY

MR GLASS boasts some very tidy bumper form and looks to have been found a suitable opening on this switch to obstacles, so he’s the obvious choice. Newcomer Major Sting represents a top yard so has to command respect, while Fishkhov should have more to offer this season.

It’s very hard to see past STAGE STAR who was a very good bumper performer last season and should have a bright future over hurdles. The well-bred Young Butler had a possible excuse when a well-beaten fourth in his sole bumper start and has potential as a hurdler with the Emma Lavelle team in reasonable form. Deeper Blue was third on his hurdle bow in the spring and could also play a part. 1-2-3: 1.STAGE STAR (IRE) 2.YOUNG BUTLER (IRE) 3.DEEPER BLUE (FR) KEY colours

Rebecca Curtis won this race last year so it’s perhaps worth chancing PENNYFORAPOUND, who looked promising when winning a maiden hurdle in January and a point success at the start of his career provides hope that he’ll do well over fences. RACE STATS LEADING COURSE TRAINER (16-21): P Nicholls (47 wins from 183 runners, 26%) runs HENRI THE SECOND TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): P Nicholls (6 wins from 27 runners, 22%) runs HENRI THE SECOND FANCY THAT: P Nicholls won this race in 2018 & 2020. The stable runs HENRI THE SECOND today. LONGEST TRAVELLER: LETTHETRUTHBEKNOWN trained by O Greenall, Malpas, 117 miles. RACE SUMMARY

An interesting bumper in which Paul Nicholls’ unraced half-brother to the stable’s smart Enrilo ENRI THE SECOND gets the vote. There are others who catch the eye though, with fellow newcomer and point runner-up Moot Court highly respected for Fergal O’Brien and taking Cork bumper scorer Letthetruthbeknown also figuring high on the shortlist too. 1-2-3: 1.HENRI THE SECOND (FR) 2.MOOT COURT (IRE) 3.LETTHETRUTHBEKNOWN (IRE) KEY colours
