Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HHHHH Selected to win the race. HIIII Can be given little or no chance. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

You must be 18 or over to place a bet You may be asked to provide proof of your age when placing a bet If you cannot produce this your bet will not be accepted

An interesting race. There was a lot to like about DE YOUNG WARRIOR’s chase debut success at Exeter so he’s taken to make light of a 4lb rise but there are plenty of dangers, headed by fellow last-time-out scorer Slipway. Eva’s Oskar, who can surely be forgiven his run from out of the weights in the Welsh National, and Sail Away are also on the shortlist. 1-2-3: 1.DE YOUNG WARRIOR 2.SLIPWAY (IRE) 3.EVA’S OSKAR (IRE) KEY colours

RACE SUMMARY

EATON COLLINA chased a subsequent winner home while pulling clear of the remainder at Bangor last time and this stiffer track should be to his liking, so he takes marginal preference over last-time-out Plumpton scorer Full of Light, who is going the right way. Feivel remains with potential and could make his presence felt with an error-free round of jumping.

RACE SUMMARY Plenty of depth to this bumper but I AM ROCCO is from a successful family and represents a yard with few peers if any when it comes to readying a newcomer. He gets the vote with Sporting Ace and Rockinastorm just about the pick of those with Rules experience, while Master Chewy has a £300,000 price tag to uphold. 1-2-3: 1.I AM ROCCO 2.SPORTING ACE (IRE) 3.ROCKINASTORM (IRE) KEY colours
