OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions
A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

HOW TO READ
Welcome to Chepstow Racecourse for a fund raising race day for Racing Welfare, a registered charity supporting the workforce of British horseracing. This week it is Racing Staff Week and part of the activities is a charity race here today specifically for stable staff (see pages 8-9 for details). I wish all of the riders the very best of luck
I would to thank today’s race sponsors Chepstow Construction Equipment, the Wasdell Group, Vickers Bet and the Carbis family. I hope they have an enjoyable afternoon with us.
We have a new General Manager at Chepstow Lindsay Knox, joined us two weeks ago. She has spent her career in leisure management and now takes her first role in horse racing. I am sure many of our customers will meet her in the coming months. I have now taken a regional director role covering Hereford, Chepstow, Ffos Las and Worcester racecourses.
This coming weekend at the racecourse we welcome more than 60,000 people for three headline concerts featuring Lionel Richie, Lewis Capaldi and George Ezra. This is a fantastic partnership between Live Nation, Cuffe Taylor and ourselves which we hope will continue in the future with more popular acts coming to Monmouthshire.
We have an exceptionally busy summer ahead here at Chepstow Racecourse.
On Ladies Evening on Friday 14th July the post racing entertainment is supplied by The Dreamboys. The ever popular Caribbean Race Night is on Friday 28th July. For both of these fixtures, we are offering significant discounts for group bookings, please see the website for details.
We also host our first Racing League fixture on Thursday 10th August.
I hope you have a great day with us and I look forward to welcoming you back on another occasion. If you are interested in taking hospitality at any of our fixtures, please email Jodi Boreham (jboreham@chepstow-racecourse.co.uk). Our next meeting is Monday 10th July (evening).
Phil Bell Regional Director South West
CHEPSTOW RACECOURSE is part of Arena Racing Company which includes; Bath, Brighton, Doncaster, Ffos Las, Fontwell Park, Great Yarmouth, Hereford, Lingfield Park, Newcastle, Royal Windsor, Sedgefield, Southwell, Uttoxeter, Wolverhampton and Worcester racecourses

This can go to BRABUSACH, who bumped into one at the top of his game at Nottingham just over 3 weeks ago and, with this longer trip holding no fears, he’s taken to open his account. The main danger could emerge from Yesisaidyes, who hasn’t shown much so far but may well take a step forward now handicapping given his smart pedigree. Khangai and Man Made of Smoke can fight out third spot

The Richard and Hazel Carbis Celebration!
Richard had a passion for horses throughout his life and owned a beautiful grey called Scout as his sons, Ian and Andrew, grew up.
After that, he took more of a watching brief, in particular flat racing, where he followed the fortunes of his favourite jockeys such as Lester Piggott, Darryll Holland, Jason Weaver and Frankie Dettori and horses such as Mill Reef, The Minstrel, Lochsong and Double Trigger. After losing his beloved wife Hazel in 2013, Richard attended fewer meetings, but almost always picked out the grey horse in the paddock. In later life, illness prevented Richard from attending, but he loved watching the TV coverage charting the progress of his favourite Hollie Doyle and Tom Marquand.
coup
Ian, Andrew and their families would like to thank Chepstow Racecourse for the opportunity to celebrate the lives of Richard and Hazel today.

HAVE A RACE IN YOUR VERY OWN NAME!!!
Did you know you could celebrate a special occasion with a race named after a friend or relative – for example
‘The John and Joan 40th Wedding Anniversary Maiden Stakes’ or ‘The John Smith 30th Birthday Handicap Stakes’.
It’s a great way to enjoy a day out with brilliant memories and you can combine it with hospitality in a private suite or a meal in the restaurant. You can come down to the Parade Ring and choose the ‘Best Turned Out’ horse and also present a prize to the winning owner before enjoying a post-race glass of bubbly. The package also includes photographs of your day and a mention in the racecard and on the big screen.
