OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions
A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

The Racing League Joker Card
A new innovation introduced in Racing League 2022 allows each of the managers of the seven competing teams having the opportunity to play a Joker in any two of the 42 races when there are at least 12 horses running.
The Joker doubles the points won by the two horses representing the team in a given race. When played, the team receives double points in that given race but it is not applied to individual jockey points.
The team manager will announce their intention to play a Joker in the Paddock, directly before the selected race This is done by placing a Joker card alongside the team name on the scoreboard in the Paddock.

RACE STATS
LEADING COURSE TRAINER (17-22): D Evans (18 wins from 157 runners, 11%) runs DORA PENNY
TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): T Easterby (11 wins from 100 runners, 11%) runs SNASH
LONGEST TRAVELLER: NORDIC PASSAGE trained by J F Levins, Ireland.
On her first attempt at sprinting, MOMAER doubled her tally in remarkably easy fashion at Leicester last month, and with further improvement on the cards, Mark Loughnane’s 4-y-o gets the verdict to go in again with a first-time tongue tie added to her usual hood. Nordic Passage lurks on a very dangerous mark so he may emerge as the main threat, ahead of the penalised Executive Decision and Ramiro.

RACE SUMMARY
A competitive handicap, in which class-dropping MAJESTIC is fancied to shrug off a rare poor performance in the John Smith’s Cup last time and gain his first success since landing last year’s Cambridgeshire. Bosc Girl pulled clear with a prolific rival at Doncaster last time and there could be more still to come from Richard Fahey’s lightly-raced filly, whilst Fantasy Believer has only been nudged up slightly for last month’s Newmarket win and should be in the mix again.

HAVE A RACE
IN YOUR VERY OWN NAME!!!
Did you know you could celebrate a special occasion with a race named after a friend or relative – for example
‘The John and Joan 40th Wedding Anniversary Maiden Stakes’ or ‘The John Smith 30th Birthday Handicap Stakes’.
It’s a great way to enjoy a day out with brilliant memories and you can combine it with hospitality in a private suite or a meal in the restaurant. You can come down to the Parade Ring and choose the ‘Best Turned Out’ horse and also present a prize to the winning owner before enjoying a post-race glass of bubbly. The package also includes photographs of your day and a mention in the racecard and on the big screen.

RACE STATS
LEADING COURSE TRAINER (17-22): R Millman (17 wins from 124 runners, 14%) runs ABLE KANE
TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): T Easterby (11 wins from 100 runners, 11%) runs BOARDMAN & QUEST FOR FUN
WEIGHTWATCHER: FOOLS RUSH IN won off a handicap mark of 95, his rating is now down 8lb to 87.
LONGEST TRAVELLER: LOINGSEOIR trained by M C Grassick, Ireland.
FOOLS RUSH IN dropped his biggest hint yet this year that he’s coming to the boil when running on late for fifth in the International at Ascot last month and, having been cut further slack by the assessor, he could just be ready to strike with forecast conditions holding no fears. Last-time-out winners Pearle d’Or and Atrium head up the dangers, with Saxon King another who can dispel a slightly lesser display at Newmarket 19 days ago
