RACE IN FOCUS
The PTL Luxury Hire Apprentice Handicap (Class 4)
Sub Thirteen is among the six runners
Following a respectable second placed effort at Ffos Las last time out, when giving lumps of weight away to his eventual conqueror, Devious Devan is taken to go one better and land our feature contest today. A three year-old son of Profitable, Devious Devan caught the eye with a promising third place effort at Nottingham earlier this season - the first two home that day have gone on to perform well in valuable handicap races at Royal Ascot and Epsom’s Derby meeting respectively. That piece of form sets the standard and with Chepstow’s stiff 7 furlongs expected to suit, Devious Devan has to go close here.
The lightly-raced Phoenix of Dreams rates as the main danger He has shown ability on his three runs in maiden company so far, and looks the type to make an impact in handicap company. A keen sort, he needs to learn to settle but if racing more efficiently today, he has to have a big chance. Sub Thirteen has flourished for new connections, winning three of four starts - he cannot be ruled out, but does have stamina to prove stepping up in distance today.
Andrew Balding’s filly, Miss Information, deserves an honourable mention. She has some decent placed efforts to her name (3rd in a Class 3 event at Newmarket in May) that would entitle her to run well here. However, she has been slightly below her best the last twice, whereas Devious Devan has maintained a consistent level of form, and shouldn’t need to improve on his previous efforts to win this.

It’s a great way to enjoy a day out with brilliant memories and you can combine it with hospitality in a private suite or a meal in the restaurant. You can come down to the Parade Ring and choose the ‘Best Turned Out’ horse and also present a prize to the winning owner before enjoying a post-race glass of bubbly.
