ROB SENIOR EVENTS AND DUTY MANAGER

WHAT IS YOUR ROLE WITHIN THE COMPANY?

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE ASPECT OF YOUR JOB?

WHAT DOES YOUR LEGER WORKING WEEK LOOK LIKE?

WHAT’S THE BEST THING ABOUT DONCASTER RACECOURSE?

I work with some really talented people and I’ve always said it, it’s the staff that make Doncaster great. They all go above and beyond and that is the difference WHAT’S THE BEST PART OF THE COURSE? The Champagne Lawn is the place to be seen on raceday’s. Nothing beats the view down the straight mile from there!

It’s Doncaster’s big week, and the excitement in the weeks leading up to it really gets the pulses racing. Seeing the enjoyment on the customers faces and all best horses in racing coming to contest some of the flat seasons’ best races.

My favourite aspect of the job is, after delivering a successful event or race meeting, the feeling of pride I have for my myself and the team is really satisfying.

WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT THE CAZOO ST LEGER FESTIVAL?

Early starts and late-night finishes! We have a huge team to manage on Doncaster’s big week, preparing the site and turning the site for the next day. Our aim is to make the racecourse on Cazoo St Leger Saturday look like it did on the opening Wednesday. It’s a huge team effort and year in year out the team smash it!

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE DAY OF THE CAZOO ST LEGER FESTIVAL AND WHY? It has to be St Leger Day. The eyes of the racing world are on Sunny Donny and we know how to put on a show!

WHAT IS THE MOST EVINTERESTING/FUNNYENTYOU’VEEXPERIENCEDONTHECLOCK?

MEET THE FACES

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. Br TIMEFORMVIEWHighly-progressive colt who showed another jolt of improvement when extending unbeaten record to 4 when easily accounting for his rivals in GreatVoltigeur at York. Should stay and massive player TFRHHHHH BHA115 Star Ratings Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: Selected to win the race Good chance of being placed. By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. be given little or no chance. horse’s saddlecloth horse’s name

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

HOW TO READ YOUR RACECARD

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

LEGER LEGENDS TODAY MARKS THE FINAL LEGER LEGENDS

The Leger Wednesday has a long history as part of the meeting as this was initially when the St Leger itself was run. The last Wednesday St Leger, in 1969, was won by Intermezzo. Lester Piggott had won the race four times in the 1960s but this time he was on the runner-up, the luckless Ribofilio, a beaten favourite in four English and Irish classics. In the last decade, one of the highlights of Wednesday has been the Legends race for ex-jockeys. The Leger Legends race sees 16 retired jockeys return to the saddle to raise money for the Injured Jockey Fund and the National Horseracing College.

Over the years this has seen racing legends such as AP McCoy, Julie Krone and Joseph O’Brien win the race As a memento of this occasion, attendees on Wednesday 7th September will receive a commemorative ‘I am a Leger Legend’ pin badge. These badges are available at various places around the site.

WEDNESDAY BEFORE IT’S MOVED TO A NEW POSITION ON SUNDAY IN 2023.

TODAY’S FEATURE RACE

The feature race of today’s card is the Cazoo Scarbrough Stakes (Class 1) Listed Race worth £60,000 in prize money. This race has been won by some spectacularly fast horses since its first running in 1983, therefore the listed sprint is also well known as Doncaster’s ‘flying five furlongs’. CELTIC MILL in 2004 set the record time with an impressive 57:28 seconds under Frankie Dettori. The David Baker-trained gelding is one of the three horses who has won this race twice. Richard Hannon Senior trained NOTLEY and GALEOTA have also won this race twice.
