WELCOME
TO DONCASTER RACECOURSE
Hello and welcome to Doncaster Racecourse for our mid-week Winter Afternoon Jumps Raceday. We are delighted you’ve joined us here today and we would like to thank our sponsors SBK, Sky Sports Racing and At the Races for their generous support of today’s fixture. There are 7 races on the card and our raceday presenter Bobby Beevers and resident tipster Roger Hart will be in the Parade Ring at around 12:20 to run through the racecard with you and hopefully pick you out some winners! We hope you can join us for the final National Hunt fixture at Town Moor – The Grimthorpe Chase weekend, which takes place on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd March. The Grimthorpe Chase is a National Hunt steeplechase that contains 19 jump fences. The distance has varied over time, but currently sits at a little over 3 miles and 2 furlongs. Considered the ultimate endurance test, this race is seen as a trial for the Aintree Grand National in April, as many winners (such as The Last Samuri and Definitely Red) have gone on to be favourites in the Merseyside race. Then on Saturday 23rd March, Doncaster Racecourse opens the British Flat Turf season – The Greatest Show - with The Lincoln! Sunday 24th March is The Lincoln Family Fun Day with lots of FREE entertainment and activities for the kids! We have lots of live entertainment planned for you after racing during our flat season at our Summer Saturday fixtures. These take place on Saturday 18th May, Saturday 1st June, Saturday 29th June, Saturday 20th July, Saturday 3rd August and Saturday 17th August. Make sure you’ve signed up to our e-newsletter at www.doncaster-racecourse.co.uk and follow us on social media DoncasterRaces to be the first to find out who’s performing! The four-day Betfred St Leger Festival kicks off on Thursday 12th September with Ladies Day; the Doncaster Cup is on Friday 13th September and then the flagship day of the festival – the Betfred St Leger is on Saturday 14th. The festival draws to a close with Leger Legends on Sunday 15th September at our St Leger Community Fun Day – a fun-filled raceday for the whole family to enjoy. We hope you enjoy your day with us here at Town Moor and as always, we welcome any feedback you may have. Rach Harwood, Executive Director

Star Ratings Explained Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

JAGWAR had an excuse at Haydock last time and is given another chance. Olly Murphy’s Long Draw made a promising start to his hurdle career when keeping on for third at Taunton just after Christmas and is second choice ahead of Nicky Henderson bumper winner Gentleman’s Relish, who surely can’t have been right when pulled up on his Kempton hurdle debut and could prove a different proposition now.

KNIGHT OF ALLEN showed plenty of ability on what was effectively his debut when runner-up to a subsequent winner at Listed level at Aintree a couple of months ago and a repeat here could well be enough to see him get off the mark. Wreckless Eric, who showed promise himself amidst greenness when second at Newbury recently, rates the chief threat. El Battle Bus and The Ron Do Ron are a couple of newcomers to note.

SANITISER was an eyecatcher at Kempton in November and is taken to build on that promise off a mark which is potentially very lenient based on his Flat ability. Churchman shaped well at Ludlow in only his second handicap and heads the dangers along with Common Acclaim. Pollyonesock and My Friend Sean are handicap newcomers to keep a close eye on in the betting. 1-2-3: 1.SANITISER 2.CHURCHMAN 3.COMMON ACCLAIM (IRE) KEY
