Virgin Bet Raceday Preview
11.45
Stanage who has now moved to the Michael & David Easterby yard was an impressive winner last time out at Chelmsford over 7 furlongs. He goes up 5lbs in the weights for that win but there could be plenty more to come from the 3-year-old son of Kingman. Quest For Fun drops 2 lbs and looks a danger now off 81. He handles soft ground, and this dropin class today gives him every chance of getting to the winner’s circle
12.15
An extremely competitive race here, Fahrenheit Seven comes here on a hattrick after wins at Haydock and Epsom but he steps up to 7f here on the soft ground which he has not raced on before. Look Back Smiling goes well at Doncaster, he has run here four times winning twice. He is back down to his last winning mark, and he drops into class 4 for the first time since his win here last year
12:50
So Darn Hot looks to be improving and ran an encouraging 2nd last time out over 5 furlongs at Yarmouth. He is stepped up to 6 furlongs, which should not be an issue, and a repeat of the Yarmouth effort would see him go close here today. My Mate Beattie however looks an interesting prospect. She has come up against some tough opposition and the form of her previous novice races has worked out well. She handles soft ground and could be the value pick here.
1.20
Zoum Zoum won a handicap over course and distance last time out on soft ground and looks set to run a big race here for trainer Ralph Beckett. Room Service ran a good 2nd in the Sprint Trophy Handicap at York and was not beaten too far in the Virgin Bet Ayr Gold Cup prior to that run when breaking from stall 22. He won the Weatherbys Scientific Stakes here last year and will likely get a fast pace to suit his running style today.
2.00
Station X was a nice winner at 14/1 last time out on heavy ground at Haydock. He ran a bit green that day and it looks like there is more scope for improvement here. Art Design was eye catching when finishing 2nd at Newbury She goes up 1lb in the weights and has since moved to the Julie Camacho yard East Tyrone now runs off a feasible mark of 67 and drops in class here today. The bottom weight selection looks one for the shortlist.
2.35
Trilby has shown much improved form recently when getting his favoured soft ground and is respected, but preference is for Admiral D who also appreciates a bit of cut in the ground. He had three below par efforts since returning from a summer break for which he was dropped 4lbs to a mark of 81. He then bounced back to form at Haydock on heavy ground finishing second to Hour By Hour Today’s trip and ground will suit this Richard Fahey trained 5-year-old and his mark of 81 looks workable
3.10
Danielle is a confident selection in this 10f Listed event. She was a good second in the Group 3 St Simon Stakes at Newbury last time out, this drop in trip will be no problem for this strong traveller She loves the ground and with this drop-in class she will take all the beating.
3.45
Valvano was an impressive maiden winner last year on heavy ground at Nottingham. The 3-year-old is lightly raced and could be well treated off a mark of 97 He finished 3rd last time out behind Bolster, who subsequently won a listed race on his next start. Master Builder steps back down in trip He should get a fast pace here to run at and ground conditions look to suit him. There may be more to come from Miller Spirit who has won his last 3 starts. He does move up to a higher mark of 97 but may still be ahead of the handicapper. Today’s ground conditions should suit the selection, and he looks the pick here for the Gary & Josh Moore yard

Star Ratings Explained
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race.
HHHHI Good chance of being placed.
HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.
HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
