Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race

HHHHI Good chance of being placed

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope

HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions

A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

Welcome to our first ever Rum And Reggae Race Night at Ffos Las Racecourse.

It’s been an amazing National Hunt season here at Britain’s newest racecourse, during which we’ve seen some fantastic and exciting racing

I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank all the Owners and Trainers for their continuing support of the racecourse, and also not forgetting the superb Grounds and Operations teams here who keep the racecourse in such great condition all year round.

Tonight is going to be a very special evening Many thanks to Hall Bros Transport of Fishguard and Swansea for supporting us by being our main Sponsor tonight. A superb family business who we are proud to co-partner with here in West Wales.

So please enjoy the racing in this glorious sunshine (almost tropical !) plus the sounds of the brilliant Trenchtown Experience performing live after racing.

Looking forward we have some great race days coming up over the Summer, our Flat racing season starts on Sunday June 25th with a Beer and Cider race day featuring the Wurzels , plus then we build up to Ladies Day on the 25th August where James Argent (that’s Arg from TOWIE ) and his band will perform live , plus the Million Dollar Men will be with us again on stage.

Trust me it will certainly be a day to remember!

Finally thank you all for supporting your local racecourse , and always remember “You really cant beat a great day out at the races!”

WELCOME

Evacuation Procedures

If an incident occurs which is beyond our control, it is important that you are aware of how we intend to look after you in the event of an emergency.

As part of our Safety management, we have employed professionally trained and experienced stewards and you will see them at various points throughout the racecourse. In the event of a situation, which requires partial or full evacuation of the stands or racecourse, announcements will be broadcast and stewards will undertake the responsibility of ushering you to a place of safety; it is essential that you follow their instructions. Please take your immediate belongings with you and proceed out of the area quickly and calmly with the guidance of the stewards

The evacuation procedures have been carefully planned to lead you to a safe area Should it be necessary to evacuate the course itself, there will be two main options; firstly to return to your vehicles if safe to do so and leave via the main entrance

Secondly, should it not be safe to return to your vehicles, you will be requested to leave via emergency evacuation gates, onto the racecourse itself, where you will receive further instructions.

It may give you peace of mind if you pre plan and agree a meeting place, just in case you become separated from your party. The above is precautionary only and we trust that the procedures will never be required. However, in the event of an emergency, remember;

• Take your belongings with you.

• Under the directions of the stewards, proceed quickly and calmly to the safe area.

Glasses & Bottles

Broken glasses and bottles are dangerous. In the interests of safety and the comfort of others please do not carry drinks or food on to the steppings of the stand, or the areas adjacent to the parade ring or unsaddling enclosure. It is policy at this racecourse for screens to be erected in circumstances where we have any horse, or jockey in a condition whereby treatment is being administered and a degree of privacy is deemed appropriate The use of screens does not therefore automatically infer that a fatality has occurred

Under no circumstances may photographs taken on the racecourse be used for publication without the permission of the racecourse executive Flash photography is essentially dangerous where horses are involved You are asked not to use flash photography anywhere in the parade ring area and particularly near the Winners Enclosure.

LONGEST TRAVELLER: HORN CAPE trained by B Haslam, Middleham, 328 miles.

A case can be made for all of these but HORN CAPE still looked to have more to offer when scoring at Hexham so gets the vote at the chief expense of Fakenham winner Gavin. Just The Man is also weighted to have a say if, as expected, building on his Bangor run after an absence.
