Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race

HHHHI Good chance of being placed

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope

HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions

A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

Welcome to our Heatforce Ladies Day at Ffos Las Racecourse, which has since 2009 become one of the biggest social occasions in West Wales.

And this year we’ve really made it special with some great flat racing followed by some “top drawer” entertainment for you all to enjoy.

Firstly I have to say a big thank you to our main Ladies Day sponsor Heatforce for their amazing on going support for this special race day.

So , let me tell you about the packed day of entertainment and racing we have for you.

The fun starts with the brilliant Darren Sax on the main N E 10 Vodka stage based outside the McCoys suite from 11.45am, followed by the Legendary Tina Sparkle

Then you can enjoy an afternoon of six great races, and around 5pm we have returning live on stage for the second year The Million Dollar Men.

Then finally the star of TV reality show “TOWIE” James Argent and the Arg Band will headline the Ladies Day Entertainment in style.

Don’t forget you could win £500 by becoming the Best Dressed Lady on the day, kindly sponsored by Dress for the Occasions of Pembrokeshire.

Please remember to go to the flower wall on the main concourse before racing for your commemorative picture with Behind The Lens Media.

I hope you have a fantastic day, and thank you for supporting your local racecourse, and always remember “You really cant beat a great day at the races!”

Enjoy!

Evacuation Procedures

If an incident occurs which is beyond our control, it is important that you are aware of how we intend to look after you in the event of an emergency.

As part of our Safety management, we have employed professionally trained and experienced stewards and you will see them at various points throughout the racecourse. In the event of a situation, which requires partial or full evacuation of the stands or racecourse, announcements will be broadcast and stewards will undertake the responsibility of ushering you to a place of safety; it is essential that you follow their instructions. Please take your immediate belongings with you and proceed out of the area quickly and calmly with the guidance of the stewards

The evacuation procedures have been carefully planned to lead you to a safe area Should it be necessary to evacuate the course itself, there will be two main options; firstly to return to your vehicles if safe to do so and leave via the main entrance

Secondly, should it not be safe to return to your vehicles, you will be requested to leave via emergency evacuation gates, onto the racecourse itself, where you will receive further instructions.

It may give you peace of mind if you pre plan and agree a meeting place, just in case you become separated from your party. The above is precautionary only and we trust that the procedures will never be required. However, in the event of an emergency, remember;

• Take your belongings with you.

• Under the directions of the stewards, proceed quickly and calmly to the safe area.

Glasses & Bottles

Broken glasses and bottles are dangerous. In the interests of safety and the comfort of others please do not carry drinks or food on to the steppings of the stand, or the areas adjacent to the parade ring or unsaddling enclosure. Horse & Jockey Welfare

It is policy at this racecourse for screens to be erected in circumstances where we have any horse, or jockey in a condition whereby treatment is being administered and a degree of privacy is deemed appropriate The use of screens does not therefore automatically infer that a fatality has occurred

Racegoers may take photographs for private purposes. Under no circumstances may photographs taken on the racecourse be used for publication without the permission of the racecourse executive Flash photography is essentially dangerous where horses are involved You are asked not to use flash photography anywhere in the parade ring area and particularly near the Winners Enclosure.

HAVE A RACE

IN YOUR VERY OWN NAME!!!

Did you know you could celebrate a special occasion with a race named after a friend or relative – for example

‘The John and Joan 40th Wedding Anniversary Maiden Stakes’ or ‘The John Smith 30th Birthday Handicap Stakes’.

It’s a great way to enjoy a day out with brilliant memories and you can combine it with hospitality in a private suite or a meal in the restaurant. You can come down to the Parade Ring and choose the ‘Best Turned Out’ horse and also present a prize to the winning owner before enjoying a post-race glass of bubbly. The package also includes photographs of your day and a mention in the racecard and on the big screen.

For more details, please email General Manager Kevin Hire –khire@arenaracingcompany.co.uk

PORT ERIN duly left his previous efforts well behind when making a winning handicap debut in good style at Newcastle last week and will prove hard to beat under a penalty. Coral Reef is the clear main danger given that Larrsen has a bit to prove following a low-key effort atWindsor.
