Evacuation

Procedures

If an incident occurs which is beyond our control, it is important that you are aware of how we intend to look after you in the event of an emergency.

As part of our Safety management, we have employed professionally trained and experienced stewards and you will see them at various points throughout the racecourse. In the event of a situation, which requires partial or full evacuation of the stands or racecourse, announcements will be broadcast and stewards will undertake the responsibility of ushering you to a place of safety; it is essential that you follow their instructions. Please take your immediate belongings with you and proceed out of the area quickly and calmly with the guidance of the stewards The evacuation procedures have been carefully planned to lead you to a safe area Should it be necessary to evacuate the course itself, there will be two main options; firstly to return to your vehicles if safe to do so and leave via the main entrance Secondly, should it not be safe to return to your vehicles, you will be requested to leave via emergency evacuation gates, onto the racecourse itself, where you will receive further instructions. It may give you peace of mind if you pre plan and agree a meeting place, just in case you become separated from your party. The above is precautionary only and we trust that the procedures will never be required. However, in the event of an emergency, remember;

• Take your belongings with you.

• Under the directions of the stewards, proceed quickly and calmly to the safe area.

Glasses & Bottles

Broken glasses and bottles are dangerous. In the interests of safety and the comfort of others please do not carry drinks or food on to the steppings of the stand, or the areas adjacent to the parade ring or unsaddling enclosure. Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race

HHHHI Good chance of being placed

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope

HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions

A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

Race preview from Weatherbys

Weatherbys sponsor the opening race on today’s card, which has split into two divisions. The first division of the Weatherbys & Birdie Calendars Novices’ Hurdle looks to have a little more strength-in-depthtoit,withtwoprevious winnershavingtocarrya7lbspenalty.

Gold In The Rivers makes his debut for David Pipe, having won at Limerick when trained by Gordon Elliott, whilst Imaginarium – who was a useful Flat performer in Ireland – won for Lucinda RussellbeforejoiningOllyMurphy.Hewas well-beatenintheGrade2SharpNovices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham last month and dropsinclass.

Murphy saddles two and stablejockey Sean Bowen has opted to ride DiamondsForLuckwhoshowedpromise in two Irish Points (fell in both) before disappointing in a Taunton bumper in the spring. He proved that form to be all wrong when recording a sound second atUttoxeteronhurdlesdebutandshould buildonthatundersimilarconditions.

Don’tWindMeUpboastsanicepedigree and is likely capable of much better than he showed when fourth of five in a Chepstow bumper, whilst Leech had good form in that sphere, winning at the secondattemptbeforetakinghischance intheGrade2atAintree.

“The most intriguing runner looks to be Paul Nichollstrained Tutti Quanti.”

However, the most intriguing runner looks to be the Paul Nicholls-trained Tutti Quanti, who finished runner-up on his sole start in France and shaped with an abundance of promise on his British debut at Taunton in January. Beaten a half-length by the well-bred mare Joyeuse, he finished in front of the Into The Park (won his next two starts) and clear of the 110-rated Shakeyatailfeather. The four-year-old was quite keen and raced enthusiastically but clearly has plentyofabilityandthefactthathedidn’t winaracelaterintheseasonmeansthat heremainsanoviceforthefullcampaign.

An imposing son of French sire Chanducoq (himself a son of Voix du Nord),helookscapableofmakingupinto areallynicenovicehurdlerthiswinterand might well be up to making a successful reappearanceunderHarryCobden.

Division two looks like being a good opportunity for Kim Bailey’s exciting The Kemble Brewery to follow-up his Worcestersuccessfromlastmonth. That form was advertised last week when the runner-up Jurancon won at Chepstow and also when the fifth won at Newbury, and slightly better ground will likely see himinevenbetterlight.

He beat Grade 2-winning novice hurdler Valgrand (gave 4lbs) in a bumper at Cheltenham last October and if he wins thisafternoon, couldwellbedestinedfor Gradedraceshimselfbeforetoolong.

Of the opposition, Jackpot d’Ainay and Koapey–whohashadawind-operation since finishing runner-up in a bumper herelastmonth–looktobethepick.

Lots of potential on show here, not least Olly Murphy’s JACCOURS who is fancied to build on his promising Worcester fourth (form been franked) now his stamina is drawn out more and get off the mark. Farland also shaped well when third at Chepstow last time and could emerge as the main danger, with Churchstone Rover and Nels Son also with the form to have a say. Newcomers Ski Lodge, Crest of Fortune andTokyoTom also need factoring into this intriguing maiden.
