The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races

rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were

RACE SUMMARY

MOMBASA joined Philip Hobbs’s yard for €250,000 in July after going unbeaten in two runs over hurdles in Fance and this exciting prospect is taken to extend his unbeaten record at the chief expense of Achnamara, who was a useful winner on the level and shouldn’t be underestimated on his debut for the in-form Harry Fry team. Jilaijone, Aviles and Wholeofthemoon can’t be dismissed either in a most intriguing contest 1-2-3: 1.MOMBASA (FR) 2.ACHNAMARA 3.JILAIJONE

We are committed to minimising risks, dealing quickly and humanely with injuries and maintaining the highest level of care At every meeting there are three specially qualified Equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action. A British Horseracing Authority Veterinary Officer is also in attendance working closely with the racecourse veterinary team. This is to ensure that any injury to a horse is recorded, so that it can be monitored when it returns to racing. It is now a standard practice for screens to be erected around any horse receiving veterinary attention on the course This does not reflect the severity of an injury, but allows the vet some privacy in which to administer treatment and provides the horse with a calmer environment. Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erected around a fallen horse. To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website: www.fontwellpark.co.uk

RACE SUMMARY

Plenty are in with a shout so at the likely odds it is worth siding with RAY’S THE ONE who hinted at a revival when fourth to Beat The Heat over C&D last time and took this contest 12 months ago off a 7lb higher mark. Jim Boyle’s hat-trick seeker is feared most, althoughTamaris is another who needs considering despite having a lengthy absence to overcome 1-2-3:
