WELCOME TO HEREFORD RACECOURSE

Welcome to Hereford Racecourse for an afternoon of jump racing sponsored by Planet Sport Bet. We also welcome NAF Racing who are kindly sponsoring our new Best Turned Out Horse Award League. Running from October through to the end of the season in April, the winning individuals’ yards from each raceday will be recorded with an overall yard crowned the winner and rewarded with a bumper prize of NAF Racing products. The teamwork by stable staff that goes into every horse to make it look at its best when on a racecourse is something we feel should be rewarded by way of this seasonal league. If you haven’t made a start on the Christmas shopping yet (who has?), then the Injured Jockeys’ Fund stand here with us today is the perfect place to start! With Christmas cards, gifts and much more available to purchase, with all proceeds going to such a worthy cause, do pay them a visit next to the winner’s enclosure. Thank you to the volunteers from the Hereford Poppy Appeal who are here today collecting for the 2023 Appeal, you will also see our poppies around the enclosures including the purple poppy, a symbol of remembrance to those animals lost in war and conflict. We next race on Tuesday 21st November, Residents’ Raceday, which offers those with an ‘HR’ postcode 2 for 1 on general admission tickets. This offer is only available in advance, so visit our website to book your tickets www.hereford-racecourse.co.uk. We hope you enjoy your day with us! Best wishes,

Camilla Esling General Manager

Star Ratings Explained Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: Selected to win the race. Good chance of being placed. By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

hope.

Unlikely to win but not totally without Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. for novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

KENTFORD MALLARD showed the benefit of a recent run when resuming winning ways over C&D 3 weeks ago and, raised 3lb on the back of that, it would come as no surprise to see her make another bold bid. Belles Benefit and Lelantos head up the dangers, whilst Dukehill demands market attention on debut for his new yard.

Arguably the one with the greatest potential is PIMLICO POINT, who was a winner of his sole point start and there’s substance to the form of his Chepstow hurdles debut success. He was reported to have suffered with a breathing problem when disappointing on his latest appearance and, having since undergone a wind op, he may well get back on track now switched to fences. Bagheera Ginge, the only one of these with experience over fences and a winner last time, is feared most ahead of Sporting Mike.
