WELCOME TO HEREFORD RACECOURSE

Thank you for joining us this Monday 29th January, meaning we have nearly made it through what, for many reasons, feels by far like the longest month of the year! Now in to the second half of our season we have plenty to look forward to. The fixture list can be found in your racecard, as well as details about our Hereford Season Ticket, which offers general admission to all 2024 fixtures as well as a complimentary racecard per fixture. With 12 fixtures remaining the price for this ticket is now £129, which represents great value if you are a regular to the course! For more information and to purchase please visit the website www.hereford-racecourse.co.uk, or visit the racecourse office today. Fixtures included in the Season Ticket include Ladies Day on Saturday 11th March, Countryside Raceday on Sunday 14th April, and the St Michael’s Hospice Charity Raceday on Wednesday 27th March. This charity raceday will also include a Charity Race at the end of the card, allowing amateur riders who will have raised over £1500 each to ride in the race, the opportunity to race to glory in this special flat race. We do hope you will join us to support them on the day and help raise vital funds for our local hospice. If you are interested in hospitality or sponsorship packages on this day to further support the hospice please do get in touch by emailing cesling@hereford-racecourse.co.uk . Are you looking to celebrate or mark a milestone achievement? Then why not speak to us about raceday sponsorship and hospitality, we can create bespoke packages to suit your budget and needs, from racecard adverts to full race sponsorship and private hospitality, to enquire please email us at info@hereford-racecourse.co.uk and see how we can make it a day to remember. Enjoy today’s racing and we will see you again on Wednesday 14th February, Valentine’s Raceday. Best wishes

HORSE AND JOCKEY WELFARE AT HEREFORD

Nothing matters more to us when racing than the safety and welfare of both horse and rider. Central to that is the track itself and our groundstaff do everything in their power to provide an optimum racing surface. On duty today we also have a dedicated and experienced team of highly-qualified Vets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage. Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse. The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site. We also have a high-specification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital. It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary. Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse. We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today. To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website www.hereford-racecourse.co.uk.

LITTER

Please help us keep Hereford Racecourse tidy by disposing of your litter and old betting slips in the bins provided.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Flash photography is not permitted at any time. Press and Commercial photographers must pre-arrange the necessary permission with the racecourse office at least 7 days before the race meeting. Amateur photographers are only permitted to take photographs in the areas normally open to the public and should not encroach upon areas specifically designated for or used by professional photographers. Professional filming and photography takes place here at Hereford Racecourse for various publications and broadcasting, and racegoers (including families) consent to being filmed, photographed and otherwise recorded by Hereford Racecourse or any third party authorised by Hereford Racecourse.

SAFETY

In the interests of public safety all visitors to the Racecourse should follow directions of the Safety Stewards on the Stands and the Raceday Staff throughout the racecourse. Please do not leave bags or your possessions unattended at any time as this could cause a security alert. The racecourse reserves the right to ask anyone clearly under the influence of alcohol to leave at any time. Racegoers are requested to be particularly aware of their personal safety in all areas where they come into close contact with the horses, such as the parade ring and the horse walks.

Star Ratings Explained Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: Selected to win the race. Good chance of being placed. By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

hope.

Unlikely to win but not totally without Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. for novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

BLACK HAWK EAGLE had his Wincanton form boosted when the second went in at Sandown on Friday and Kerry Lee’s 6-y-o can show he’s still on a good mark. Playtogetaway will be a threat if resuming in the same form as when winning 2 handicaps in the first half of 2023. Tarahumara had a possible excuse at Exeter last time and had been progressive prior to that so he’s another who could have a say.
