Star Ratings Explained
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
Official BHA Ratings Explained The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
Where To Bet
There are a variety of places to bet at the course; The Tote has selling points throughout the racecourse - easily identified by the Tote Betting or totepool signs. The bookmakers are located in front of the grandstand in the ‘Betting Ring’. The bookmakers display their odds for each race and compete to offer the best price to customers. These are fixed price bets and the amount of your winnings will be printed on your betting slip. Search around to get the best price for your selection. Mimimum Stakes The Tote has a minimum bet of £2. The bookmakers vary but if they have a minimum it will be shown on the boards displaying their odds. If in doubt – just ask.
Important Information Abandonment Policy

RACEGOERS DISREGARDING THE REGULATION OR BEHAVING IN A DISORDERLY MANNER WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE RACECOURSE.
Veterinary Care
Horse welfare is a priority at Lingfield Park. At every meeting there are two specially qualified Equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all the horses in action. One vet is present at the start of each race and during the race follows the runners in a vehicle. Horses can be attended to in the same time as the Paramedic Teams responsible for treating injured jockeys.
Disabled Visitors
The second vet follows the action from the stands and coordinates the required response to any incidents. In addition, throughout the meeting a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race.
Dogs
It is standard policy that in the event of a horse requiring veterinary treatment whilst on site, screens will be erected around the horse. It is designed to afford the vet and the patient some privacy. Please do not assume the worst.
We now have wheelchairs available for loan on a raceday - advance bookings only. For further information and to book, please contact the Racecourse Office on 01342 834800. Dogs are not allowed on site during a race day, unless they are an official guide dog.

Don’t miss the Parade of ex-racehorses this evening at the Parade Ring! About RoR:
The ultimate goal is to maintain a balance between the number of horses leaving Racing and the number of enthusiastic, and suitable, new homes. Clearly not all racehorses go on to star in a different sphere, but RoR hopes that, on seeing what can be done, more riders will think about taking on a racehorse when they are looking for a new horse. This will help racehorse owners and trainers, equine charities, retrainers and, most importantly, the horses to find secure and knowledgeable new homes. Launched by the British Horseracing Board (now the British Horseracing Authority) in April 2000, RoR was awarded charitable status in Autumn 2000. Leading jockeys Richard Johnson and Frankie Dettori were appointed as RoR Ambassadors in April 2015. RoR has seven Trustees, of which four are appointed by the principal contributors to the fund. Two, which includes the Chairman, are appointed by the British Horseracing Authority, and there is one independent Trustee. Sir Anthony McCoy OBE became a patron of RoR in 2016 joining popular TV presenter Clare Balding OBE who has been a patron since 2014. The charity: * raises funds from within the Racing Industry for the retraining and rehoming of former racehorses * provides a safety net for ‘vulnerable’ former racehorses. * promotes the adaptability and versatility of racehorses to other equestrian activities. * runs and funds a well established programme of competitions and educational events across the country. * provides information for owners and trainers in both the Racing and Equine Industries to assist with the rehoming and retraining of their former racehorses.
Bob’s Boy
8yo Sire - Showcasing Riden by Lauren Faggetter (Eventing) Bob’s Boy raced 26 times finishing top 4 in 9 races. We’ve have had an eventful 2.5 years! He got kicked in the field sustaining a fracture, then another nasty kick resulting in another 3 months walking. His other issues including ulcers, colic and decided he didn’t like loading or travelling - so we have worked really hard on this. He’s been referred to many times as complicated; certainly he can be a bit tricky to ride. In the times we’ve been able to get out around Covid, he’s qualified for 3 National Championships Cross Country classes, our Team won at the National Arena Eventing qualifier 3rd individually, 2nd at the London SE RC Team qualifier, he’s qualified for a National on-line Dressage Championship, won his first mini Hunter trial, picked up a few placing’s in various disciplines and 3 top ten places in the RoR Regional league. I hope he’ll continue to improve and be a super all-rounder and competition pet. Although he’s not easy, he loves jumping and he’s a dream when going well and is progressing in his new career.
Gigawatt
11yo Sire - Piccolo Ridden Jackie Stevens (Eventing)
Gigawatt, bred and raced by Jim and Pippa Boyle. He ran 19 times under flat rules, winning twice and placed a further 3 times including a 2nd and 3rd here at Lingfield. He retired in 2015 aged 5 and I have had the pleasure of retraining him for the last 6 years. We enjoy Horse Trials, currently competing at BE90 level (he is very brave and loves cross country!) show jumping dressage and generally having fun together. He will turn his foot to anything- his attitude and personality is to die for. He is such a nice person, kind natured and genuine- I am lucky to have found him- He means the world to me.
King’s Future
12yo Sire - King’s Best Ridden by Virginia Rider (Endurance)
I have owned King’s Future for two years now. His stable name is Henry, aka Grumper as he is not a horse who likes fussing over. He loves having a job and hates being idle. He ran 24 times and was placed four times with 13 runs at here at Lingfield. I bought King’s Future to hunt as he had been hunted for the previous two seasons with the South Down and Eridge hunt, As Covid hit and we were unable to hunt we turned to endurance which is a solo sport. Luckily we managed to keep going throughout the season. Basically its fast hacking, using a map to negotiate our way round the south-east countryside at set speeds. You score points depending on keeping your heart rate low. Henry is very laid back and enjoys himself immensely. We have only competed up to 33k at this point, which we have to ride in about 3 hours.
Penchesco
16yo Sire - Orpen Ridden by Charlene Smith (Showing)
Penchesco was first trained by the late Pat Eddery and latterly by Amanda Perrett. He ran a total 37 times both on the flat and NH winning twice and placed 11 times. He retired from racing at the age of 8 where his owners Mr and Mrs Hancock gifted him to today’s rider Charlene. Since retiring, Penchesco has taken part in the RoR show series and has qualified for the Championship at Hickstead every year since 2014. He also successfully competes at dressage at Elementary level. He will continue showing, dressage and can now compete in Veteran classes as well.
Shake on It
17yo Sire - Lomitas Ridden by Louise Taylor (Dressing) I have owned Shake on It for 11 years, since he retired from racing. We started our life together hacking lots and taking part in various RC activities, team events and championships. We then continued our journey and ventured into the life of eventing, competing locally at BE90 level and qualifying for RC eventing team championships. We have since stopped jumping and are focussing on our next stage, Dressage. We are currently competing at Medium level dressage but training at Advanced Medium with PSG dreams for the future. He has a natural talent for dressage, but sometimes his head gets the better of him in the arena!
To the Victor
9yo Sire - Approve Ridden by Louisa Allen (Showing) To the Victor ran 11 times and was placed once, he ran here at Lingfield on six occasions. Today’s rider Louisa, has spent many great hour’s retraining him as he has an amazing brain and loves learning. He has successfully taken part in many disciplines including, Le Trec, dressage, Hunting, sponsored rides, showjumping camps and showing. So far showing seems to be where he excels and what he enjoys the most. Having won his first qualifier, the RoR Open In-hand in 2020, he then went on to bring home a few more rosettes. Louisa’s goal for 2022 is for Victor to become established at County level showing, in both ridden and RoR In-hand along with the ultimate goal of us attending The Jockey Club RoR National Championships 2022 at Aintree.
