Star Ratings
Explained
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race.
HHHHI Good chance of being placed
HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger
claims
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope
HIIII Can be given little or no chance
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating
WHERE TO BET
There are a variety of places to bet at the course; The Tote has selling points throughout the racecourse - easily identified by the Tote Betting or totepool signs
The bookmakers are located in front of the grandstand in the ‘Betting Ring’. The bookmakers display their odds for each race and compete to offer the best price to customers. These are fixed price bets and the amount of your winnings will be printed on your betting slip. Search around to get the best price for your selection.
Minimum Stakes
The Tote has a minimum bet of £2. The bookmakers vary but if they have a minimum it will be shown on the boards displaying their odds. If in doubt – just ask.

None of these are especially appealing and a chance is taken on REGAL GLORY. She was only sixth in the 7f handicap won by Intoxicata here last month, finishing just adrift of the fifth-placed Billaki Mou (also renews rivalry), but the return to this trip looks a good move and she meets those rivals on better terms this time Intoxicata is second choice ahead of Billaki Mou, whileTicket To Alaska and Stintino Sunset are others to consider

STATES was always going to struggle in a Class 2 novice at Salisbury a fortnight ago and it would be no surprise were he to get back on track here, with his sights lowered and the addition of cheekpieces a potentially good move. Grey Gray is an obvious threat on the back of a deserved breakthrough success over 5f at this course last month, while Seven Aces could be seen in a better light now that she ventures down the nursery route. Mediate Alexander also enters calculations
