Star Ratings
Explained
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race.
HHHHI Good chance of being placed
HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger
claims
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope
HIIII Can be given little or no chance
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating
WHERE TO BET
There are a variety of places to bet at the course; The Tote has selling points throughout the racecourse - easily identified by the Tote Betting or totepool signs
The bookmakers are located in front of the grandstand in the ‘Betting Ring’. The bookmakers display their odds for each race and compete to offer the best price to customers. These are fixed price bets and the amount of your winnings will be printed on your betting slip. Search around to get the best price for your selection.
Minimum Stakes
The Tote has a minimum bet of £2. The bookmakers vary but if they have a minimum it will be shown on the boards displaying their odds. If in doubt – just ask.

RACE SUMMARY
The penny now seems to be dropping with Al Hatab who stayed on well over three furlongs less on his latest outing His dam and brother had stamina too and were winners on the AW, so would be no surprise to see him progress again up in trip However, the Owen stable is still in good form with both thoroughbreds and Arabians and there may be some value with HERITAGEVADEL who should be suited by conditions and has the blinkers back on for the first time since he won in them.

Just over three lengths second to Al-Hatab at Bath over 1m2f latest, having won at that trip (Aljawaaher 2nd) last year at Wolverhampton in blinkers Still a few pounds higher than that last winning mark, and placed three times this term with headgear left off, but hasn’t seemed so effective around this trip so far. Strongly fancied beaten favourite when 8th behind Al-Hatab at Bath last time Sire’s winners best over shorter, as was her dam and though tried in a hood, cheekpieces, and now visors, may just need to strengthen up Further market support to be noted though and tries an artificial surface for the first time (R3 W0 P1) (OR 48)

Has made steady progression this term, winning on return to 1m2f at Bath when staying on well and beating most of these, latest Still a work in progress but looks likely to handle step up in trip as dam won over 1m6f, and his brother at 1m4f, both for this stable (R7 W1 P2) (OR 47)

Well into veteran stage, however placed in all six starts for amateur pilot last season, including over 1m4f (to Heritage Vadel) and over 2m1f Lacked enthusiasm this term in two runs on quick, but slight drop in grade and mark, combined with easier ground saw an improved performance behind Al-Hatab latest. Both wins came on undulating turf tracks last season, and has been out of sorts this, though did fare better in first time blinkers, placing third behind Al-Hatab last time. Has dropped to last winning mark, but steps up to this trip for the first time today, which might not suit on pedigree. (R12 W2 P1) (OR 45)

Not made the frame since, over shorter trips, but return to a greater stamina test on an artificial surface could bring about improvement, having dropped to below that last winning mark, with blinkers back on (R7 W1 P0) (OR 41)

Third behind Heritage Valentino at Wolves over 1m2f last term, and though well beaten on sole attempt at this trip, it was in a much higher grade. All his best placed form is on artificial surfaces and has gone well here in the past, but not in the best of form this season and recent fourth was over much shorter. (R20 W0 P8) (OR 40)
