KEY Owner Breeding Breeder Jockey Trainer Sponsor Star Ratings Explained

S Br

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race.

HHHHI Good chance of being placed

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger

claims

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope

HIIII Can be given little or no chance

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating

WHERE TO BET

The bookmakers are located in front of the grandstand in the ‘Betting Ring’. The bookmakers display their odds for each race and compete to offer the best price to customers. These are fixed price bets and the amount of your winnings will be printed on your betting slip. Search around to get the best price for your selection.

Minimum Stakes

The Tote has a minimum bet of £2. The bookmakers vary but if they have a minimum it will be shown on the boards displaying their odds. If in doubt – just ask.

An ultra-competitive opener and it may pay to take a chance on DEMBE Having suggested he’s coming to the boil in recent starts, he returns to the scene of his last success (in the Middle Distance Handicap on AW Finals day in 2022) lurking on a very handy mark and could be the way to go. RACE SUMMARY

Despite refusing to settle, CLOUD COVER still managed to score in the style of one who has plenty more to offer when readily taking a 4-runner contest at Kempton 39 days ago and, with this bigger field scenario a possible help, James Tate’s filly is fancied to defy a rise in the weights from a handy draw. Shades of Summer comes here in a rich vein of form and is respected despite a career-high mark, with another admirable mare, Aramis Grey also worth a look

RACE SUMMARY

A useful 3-y-o handicap PHOTOSYNTHESIS didn’t enjoy the rub of the green at Kempton recently and is worth a chance to show he’s still on a good mark. The form ofThe Coffee Pod’sYork novice win last autumn is strong and he was presumably unsuited by testing ground when well held there on his final start. Richard Hannon’s charge is handily drawn for this handicap debut and can resume his progression and provide the chief threat ahead of Salvuccio and Blue Prince.

RACE SUMMARY

Plenty arrive with claims and it could pay to side with BALDOMERO. He arrives on a long losing run but turned in another solid display when beaten on the nod over 7f here 3 weeks ago (form has been franked) and with the return to sprinting holding no fears, all looks set fair for another big run in first-time blinkers. SilkyWilkie, from a handy draw and back at 6f, can be expected to feature, with Batal Dubai and Flaming Rib (gelded since his last run) just a couple of others to consider
