Star Ratings Explained
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race
HHHHI Good chance of being placed
HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
WHERE TO BET
There are a variety of places to bet at the course; The Tote has selling points throughout the racecourse - easily identified by the Tote Betting or totepool signs
The bookmakers are located in front of the grandstand in the ‘Betting Ring’. The bookmakers display their odds for each race and compete to offer the best price to customers. These are fixed price bets and the amount of your winnings will be printed on your betting slip Search around to get the best price for your selection.
Minimum Stakes
The Tote has a minimum bet of £2. The bookmakers vary but if they have a minimum it will be shown on the boards displaying their odds. If in doubt – just ask.

RACE STATS
LEADING COURSE TRAINER (19-24): G L Moore (33 wins from 170 runners, 19%) runs SCHELEM
TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): Jonjo O’Neill (4 wins from 26 runners, 15%) runs COPPER COVE LONGEST TRAVELLER: PICKANUMBER trained by O Murphy, Wilmcote, 124 miles.
RACE SUMMARY
The profiles of COPPER COVE and Pickanumber are not dissimilar and, unless Schelem leaves his British debut effort a long way behind back from a 15-month absence, it’s likely that they will have the finish between them. There’s not much in it, with marginal preference for Copper Cove, who has quickly struck up a good relationship with conditional Benjamin Macey and appears to be on an upward curve
