Central to that is the track itself and our groundstaff do everything in their power to provide an optimum racing surface On duty today we also have a dedicated and experienced team of highly-qualified Vets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage. KEY Owner Breeding Breeder Jockey Trainer Sponsor Star Ratings Explained
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race.
HHHHI Good chance of being placed
HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger
claims
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope HIIII Can be given little or no chance
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating
WHERE TO BET
There are a variety of places to bet at the course; The Tote has selling points throughout the racecourse - easily identified by the Tote Betting or totepool signs
The bookmakers are located in front of the grandstand in the ‘Betting Ring’. The bookmakers display their odds for each race and compete to offer the best price to customers. These are fixed price bets and the amount of your winnings will be printed on your betting slip. Search around to get the best price for your selection.
Minimum Stakes
The Tote has a minimum bet of £2. The bookmakers vary but if they have a minimum it will be shown on the boards displaying their odds. If in doubt – just ask.

LEADING COURSE TRAINER (19-24): A Watson (61 wins from 327 runners, 19%) runs JUNGLE CHARM TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): E J-Houghton (4 wins from 24 runners, 17%) runs ANOTHER THOUGHT LONGEST TRAVELLER: CINQUE VERDE trained by T Carroll, Cropthorne, 147 miles.
Course-winner CRIMSON ANGEL has shaped well twice since the turn of the year, including with a view to stepping back up to this trip when fourth at Wolverhampton 31 days ago, and Clive Cox’s filly appeals as being on an exploitable mark. Jungle Charm, below par at Catterick 2 days ago, is feared on the pick of her form, whilst the return to AW will see Cinque Verde in a much better light.
