DESERT LIME has joined a yard that does well with new recruits and she shaped encouragingly on her only run to date at Dundalk last December. She may be up to making a winning return in a fairly thin-looking event. Burj Malinka ran well on his debut for this yard last month and he’ll be the main threat. Cover Name holds solid claims too.

THE BETWAY HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 4) Total race value £9700 ª Owners Prize Money. 1st £3627, 2nd £1813, 3rd £907, 4th £453, 5th £240, 6th £240, 7th £240, 8th £240. (Penalty Value £4590) 9 Eliminated Under Rules (I)9 and (I)10. SS

RACE STATS LEADING COURSE TRAINER (16-21): J Goldie (52 wins from 474 runners, 11%) runs GLOBAL HUMOR TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): L Russell (6 wins from 32 runners, 19%) runs PRAISE OF SHADOWS LONGEST TRAVELLER: RIVER TWEED trained by C Hills, Lambourn, 285 miles. RACE SUMMARY A host in with chances but the vote goes to recent C&D winner CAPTAIN VALLO. Phillip Makin’s charge is yet to finish outside the first 2 places here, so he’s put forward as the answer. The main danger could be Fortamour, who was left with too much to do when behind the selection last month. Handicap debutant River Tweed also makes some appeal after his Redcar success. 1-2-3: 1.CAPTAIN VALLO (IRE) 2.FORTAMOUR (IRE) 3.RIVER TWEED (IRE) KEY colours
