There are threeVeterinary Surgeons here today to ensure that should any horse need help they will be attended to within seconds of any incident occurring Their first priority is to make a rapid diagnosis and to help them do this our groundstaff team will erect screens around any horse that needs attention. Once the diagnosis is made, one of our horse ambulances will attend the scene and will transport the horse back to the stables where further treatment and assessment can be undertaken. Occasionally, it may be that the nature of the injury is such that a horse is unable to make a recovery. If this is the case the Veterinary team may take the decision to put the horse down straight away. In these circumstances we should remember that the horse’s welfare comes first and that this option is kindest for the horse To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy please visit our website www.newcastle-racecourse.co.uk 130+ organisations are racing’s assets to help others Visit our directory racingtogether.co.uk/directory/
