HORSE WELFARE
Here at Newcastle Racecourse
matters more to us than looking after the horses that make us the North East’s Premier Racecourse. We do everything in our power to ensure that we provide a racing surface of the highest quality and we take every conceivable care to minimise the chances of horses incurring any injury whilst here.
Regrettably, as in any highly competitive sport, there are occasions when something goes wrong and horses have to be given the very best veterinary care.
There are three Veterinary Surgeons here today to ensure that should any horse need help they will be attended to within seconds of any incident occurring Their first priority is to make a rapid diagnosis and to help them do this our groundstaff team will erect screens around any horse that needs attention. Once the diagnosis is made, one of our horse ambulances will attend the scene and will transport the horse back to the stables where further treatment and assessment can be undertaken.
Occasionally, it may be that the nature of the injury is such that a horse is unable to make a recovery If this is the case the Veterinary team may take the decision to put the horse down straight away In these circumstances we should remember that the horse’s welfare comes first and that this option is kindest for the horse.

RACE SUMMARY
In a race where solid form is very thin on the ground the vote goes to handicap newcomer
CAPITAL OFFENCE who has quite a useful pedigree and the fact he went off at 2/1 for his debut in July suggests he must have shown more at home than he’s managed on the track. Dresden Green was placed on one of his 3 starts forWilliam Haggas and should be up to making an impact from a mark of 60 for new trainer Ruth Carr so he’s feared most ahead ofTruly Charming
