Star Ratings Explained
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race
Good chance of being placed.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions.
A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

RACE SUMMARY
BEARWITH shaped better than the bare result when third at Redcar recently and is of strong interest back on the all-weather He earns the marginal vote ahead of Barenboim, who is on an attractive mark for his debut for the David O’Meara yard and has undergone a wind operation subsequent to a below-par display at Carlisle when last seen in August Crazy Maisie and Oscar Doodle both arrive here in good form and are others to consider

RACE SUMMARY
HILDENLEY has progressed returned to this surface the last twice, latterly landing a similar C&D handicap in decisive fashion. It’s unlikely that a 3lb rise will be enough to prevent him from going in again and he get the nod ahead of Berry Edge, who will be a big threat if able to reproduce the level of form he has shown on turf in recent months Wolf of Oxshott and longstanding-maiden Baltic Baron can do battle for minor honours

It was hard not to be impressed by the way COURAGE MON AMI stormed clear of his rivals on debut in a Kempton novice last month, despite fluffing the start and looking green. He bring stacks of potential to the table and should have little trouble taking this before going on to better things. Sea Gifted should in turn easily see off Easter Island and Step To The Top in the race for second place.

RACE SUMMARY
SLIPPIN JIMMY is fancied to deny Solitary Trees a quick-fire hat-trick and get off the mark here, the return to 7f likely to help him improve upon his recent second here. Solitary Trees himself is a leading player, though the drop in trip and wide draw provide minor question marks. Rebecca Menzies’s new recruit Texas Boy can fill the placings.
