Welcome to Newcastle Racecourse for the most famous day in the racecourse calendar, The Northumberland Plate Day, a superb finale to the 2024 Northumberland Plate Festival.
My thanks go to JenningsBet for their generous sponsorship of today’s card and the prestigious three-day festival I would also like to extend my thanks to Pertemps and Skopes for their sponsorship on today’s card.
Today we shall witness the greatest flat race staged annually at Newcastle Racecourse, the JenningsBet Northumberland Plate and we are absolutely delighted to welcoming so many racegoers to the racecourse
The JenningsBet Northumberland Plate is a heritage handicap, run over two miles and is one of the highlights of the summer in British Racing We are delighted to welcome a field of twenty horses for the race, alongside a similarly strong support for the Jenningsbet Northumberland Vase
Join us on the Grandstand Lawns after racing today to enjoy Hacienda Classical, the widely acclaimed live orchestral clubbing series featuring DJ Graeme Park and Manchester Camerata Orchestra. The performance will start around 30 minutes after the last race
Our next raceday is the North East’s social highlight of the year, the Gainford Group Beeswing Ladies Day on Saturday 27 July, featuring Bongo’s Bingo Party Live after Racing Expect a fast-paced dose of Bongo’s with all the fun, dancing, and iconic prizes but with a twist…it’s Bongo’s without the Bingo! Tickets are available online or by calling into the racecourse office
From the team and myself here at Newcastle Racecourse, we wish you all an enjoyable and successful day at the racecourse
Good luck!

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race
HHHHI Good chance of being placed.
HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions.
A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

RACE SUMMARY
CITY HOUSE got right back to his very best when finishing runner-up at Kempton 17 days ago, catching the eye with the rapid headway he made from further back than the winner He’s very much of interest.Wiltshire may have found conditions too quick at Newbury on his latest outing and he’s worth another chance. Almarada Prince, following a big run at York, last year’s winner Batal Dubai and Cross The Tracks are also respected.

HORSE AND JOCKEY WELFARE AT NEWCASTLE
Nothing matters more to us when racing than the safety and welfare of both horse and rider. Central to that is the track itself and our groundstaff do everything in their power to provide an optimum racing surface. On duty today we also have a dedicated and experienced team of highly-qualified Vets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage. Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse. The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site. We also have a high-specification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital
It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary. Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse. We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today. INVITED has shown promise to be placed on both his runs thus far so Richard Hannon’s son of Kodiac is fancied to gain a first success at the chief expense of Salisbury-scorer Ardennes who could find the concession of 5lb just too much. George Boughey’s debutant Dutch Finale appeals on paper and could also have a say, especially if the market vibes are positive.
