WELCOME & MEET THE TEAM

Welcome to Sedgefield Racecourse for our Boxing Day meeting. Welcome back to Sedgefield to our Vickers Bet Boxing Day raceday. We hope you have had a fantastic Christmas so far and are looking forward to continuing your celebrations with us today. Boxing Day is always such a brilliant traditional day for racing and with so much taking place today we are thrilled to have the leader of the jump jockey championship here at Sedgefield. Brian Hughes has 7 rides in our 7 races today. He couldn’t go through the whole card? Could he? Another absolute Sedgy Ledgy is also with us today. The beautiful equine warrior Roxyfet bids to take his tally to ten wins at Sedgefield in the 12:50pm. He’s got his ground, we will all be shouting him home. I would like to thank our sponsors this afternoon, thank you for returning to support us in what has been a crazy time for all. Our next race meeting is on 14th Jan. Gates open 10:50am, 1st race 12:50pm. As always, I wish you all the very best in picking a few winners and I look forward to welcoming you back to Sedgefield Racecourse again soon. Enjoy and good luck. Emma White GENERAL MANAGER

Star Ratings Explained Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed.

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

Runswick Days won The Santander In Memory of Robert Forster Handicap Steeple Chase at Sedgefield on Tuesday 11th November 2014.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

Tom Hinton Tom who was mad on horse racing sadly lost his life in February 2020 due to a short illness. Tom and his wife Theresa who travelled all over Europe watching racing always found themselves coming back here to Sedgfield. Tom who loved his annual Boxing Day trip to Sedgefield with his family.

Whilst attending most meeting’s here at Sedgefield, Boxing Day was a special meeting for him and his family. In memory of Tom we as a family decided to honour his name again by sponsoring a race on the Boxing Day meeting. Last year won by Cybalko for the England team. From all our family we hope you’ve had a brilliant Christmas and have a great new year.

The safety of horse and rider is of paramount importance to Sedgefield Racecourse. We have a team of highly qualified vets and doctors following the action at all times and a top of the range horse ambulance in attendance at every meeting. It is policy at this racecourse for screens to be erected when a horse requires veterinary treatment on the track. This is to offer some privacy and calm for both horse and vet and does not automatically imply that a fatality has occurred. The market should prove highly informative in this mares’ bumper but Donald McCain’s winning Irish pointer SWEET AUBURN is taken to go in at the first time of asking in this sphere. Bolintlea possesses the best form of those with experience and is feared most, although Scallywags is another newcomer who needs considering given her eye-catching breeding. 1-2-3: 1.SWEET AUBURN (IRE) 2.BOLINTLEA (IRE) 3.SCALLYWAGS KEY colours
