WELCOME

WELCOME TO OUR LAST SUMMER JUMPS MEETING OF THE YEAR HERE AT UTTOXETER AND A PARTICULARLY WARM WELCOME TO OUR SPONSORS TODAY, CORNWELL’S CHEMIST, WADE CERAMICS AND JEZ HOLLOWAY. With our Ladies Day meeting concluded on Friday we barely seem to have caught our breath before welcoming our customers back today for what I am sure will be an enjoyable day’s racing. Our team has worked around the clock to turn around the racecourse for todays fixture. With the whole site cleaned, Private Boxes and Hospitality suites turned around and bars restocked to make sure we are ready for our guests today. We now have a small break of 5 and a half weeks before our next fixture on the 1st September. This time is used to give the track a rest and enables the groundstaff to perform essential maintenance after a busy summer racing calendar. I can confirm that we have secured sponsorship from Marston’s for what will be our 10th Beer festival raceday in partnership with them. The meeting on the 13th November is certain to be as popular as ever so book your tickets early! Have a great day and Good Luck!! BRIAN BARRASS General Manager

STAR RATINGS EXPLAINED Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: ‘‘‘‘‘ Selected to win the race. ‘‘‘‘• Good chance of being placed. ‘‘‘•• By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims. ‘‘••• Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. ‘•••• Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non handicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

RACE SUMMARY A fairly consistent maiden over hurdles, KABRIT showed improved form at the first attempt over fences when running out a good winner of a Worcester handicap last month and a 5lb rise shouldn’t prevent a bold follow up bid on that evidence. RACE STATS LEADING COURSE TRAINER (16-21): O Greenall (10 wins from 123 runners, 8%) runs PYM TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): M Keighley (3 wins from 6 runners, 50%) runs PINNACLE PEAK WEIGHTWATCHER: THE SWEENEY won off a handicap mark of 128, his rating is now down 6lb to 122. LONGEST TRAVELLER: ESPALION trained by J Scott, Dulverton, 188 miles.

RACE SUMMARY

PINNACLE PEAK has proved to be a revelation for the fitting of cheekpieces, completing the hat-trick hard held over shorter at Southwell 12 days ago. The handicapper has reacted, but in a race where plenty have something to prove, he may well be up to defying the rise and landing the 4-timer. Justatenner may present some each-way value, along with the returning The Sweeney.
