STAR RATINGS EXPLAINED

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

ëëëëë Selected to win the race

ëëëëê Good chance of being placed

ëëëêê By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.

ëëêêê Unlikely to win but not totally without hope

ëêêêê Can be given little or no chance

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions

A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances) The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non handicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

You must be 18 or over to place a bet

You may be asked to provide proof of your age when placing a bet

HEY FRANKIE lurks on an attractive mark and wouldn’t need to build much on an encouraging return at Huntingdon last month to take this, so she earns the vote. Dancingontheedge would have won but for losing momentum over the last 2 flights over C&D on her most recent outing, so has to be considered a big threat, especially back against her own sex, while Citizen Jane is one to watch in the market back under Rules following a recent point success.

LONGEST TRAVELLER: KARAVOMYLOS trained by P Bowen, Haverfordwest, 235 miles.

RACE SUMMARY

KARAVOMYLOS has found just one too strong on both handicap starts so far but, with this greater test of stamina expected to play to his strengths and his yard in good form, Peter Bowen’s 4-y-o gets the vote to open his account sporting a first-time tongue strap. Halifax doubled his tally at Ffos Las recently and he could offer most resistance, with Ali Star Bert also fancied to feature back over the smaller obstacles.

RACE SUMMARY

BLUEBELLA has improved for the fitting of a tongue tie in recent weeks, nicely clear of the rest when second at Huntingdon 3 weeks ago, and this isn’t a strong handicap. She’ll take some stopping, though Bowland Belle has a basement mark to exploit, with Hashehadhisoatsyet also of some interest.
