Hello and welcome to our bet365 Summer Cup meeting, and an especially warm welcome and thank you to our sponsors today bet365.
The bet365 Summer Cup fixture is the richest raceday of the jump season so far with the fixture worth £207,000 in total prize money.
Ben Pauling trained the winner of the £75,000 bet365 Summer Cup last year and will be hoping to do the same this year with ‘Mole Court’. Emma Lavelle trains the top-rated runner, ‘Hang In There’. Competition could come from ‘Imperial Alex’, trained by Tom Lacey, who will be hoping to return to the winner’s enclosure once again after winning the Staffordshire Plate here in May. Dan Skelton and Gary Hanmer have started the season incredibly well at Uttoxeter and both have multiple runners across the card, including ‘Hidden Heroics’ for Skelton and both ‘Flaming Ambition’ and ‘Monte Igueldo’ for Hanmer in the Summer Cup.
A big thank you has to go to our groundstaff team, led by JP Jakes, for their extra efforts leading up to today. The driest spell we’ve had all year has meant we have had to water the track over a 12 hour period every day for the last two weeks.
Straight after our last race today we will be keeping the site open for the screening of England v Slovakia, round of 16 match, on the big screen and in all of our bars and hospitality suites. Please stay behind and cheer them on and let’s hope we get the performance we all know they are capable of!
Tickets for our Ladies Day on Friday 26th July are selling fast Along with a DJ set after racing from Roman Kemp, we will be running the ‘Hoar Cross Hall Style Awards’, with some fabulous prizes up for grabs. There are less than 500 premier tickets left so get yours now to avoid disappointment
This will be quickly followed by our ‘Burton Albion Community Trust Family Fun Day’ on Sunday 28th July There will be lots of free entertainment for the little ones and will be a winner of a family day out.
Thank you for joining us today. I do hope you have a prosperous day and England do us proud in the football!
Come on England!!!

Horse & Jockey Welfare at Uttoxeter
Nothing matters more to us when racing than the safety and welfare of both horse and rider. Central to that is the track itself and our groundstaff do everything in their power to provide an optimum racing surface. On duty today we also have a dedicated and experienced team of highly-qualified Vets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage. Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site We also have a high-specification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary. Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today. To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website www.uttoxeter-racecourse.co.uk

STAR RATINGS EXPLAINED
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
ëëëëë Selected to win the race
ëëëëê Good chance of being placed
ëëëêê By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.
ëëêêê Unlikely to win but not totally without hope
ëêêêê Can be given little or no chance
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions
A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances) The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non handicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

LEADING COURSE TRAINER (19-24): D Skelton (44 wins from 247 runners, 18%) runs MOSTLY SUNNY TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): D Skelton (6 wins from 25 runners, 24%) runs MOSTLY SUNNY LONGEST TRAVELLER: RIGHT NOW trained by R Menzies, Sedgefield, 176 miles.
This can go to FORGET THE WAY, who has made a cracking start for this yard this season and surely won’t be much longer in adding to his sole win. Mostly Sunny arrives on a hat-trick, and with further improvement on the cards, Dan Skelton’s 5-y-o can give the selection most to think about, with Elham Valley and recent Market Rasen winner Right Now rounding off the shortlist.
