TUESD

TUESDAY 9TH JULY

Hello and welcome to our ‘We Love Uttoxeter’ residents race evening and a special warm welcome to our sponsors, We Love Uttoxeter, Grace & Dotty and Nigel Kirby Photography.

The declarations for this meeting have been exceptional with 100 horses. This has provided us with 2 divisions and now a 8 race card for your entertainment this evening. With it being our residents race evening, we have teamed up with local charity ‘We Love Uttoxeter’ ’We Love Uttoxeter’ is a local charitable fund that makes small grants to a wide range of projects across Uttoxeter and the surrounding villages. They work with people and businesses who care so much about their local community that they want to give something back to support local people who may be in need The funds that they raise are used to provide small grants to charities and community groups who go on to support thousands of people across our community.

When you support ‘We Love Uttoxeter’ you are really supporting the lives of disadvantaged people across the area So please do so if you can (see programme advert for ‘We Love Uttoxeter’ with a link if you wish to donate)

Our next fixture is an afternoon meeting on Wednesday 17th July followed by the last two fixtures of the Summer, Ladies Day on Friday 26th July and the Burton Albion Community Trust Family Fun Day on Sunday 28th July.

Thank you for attending today and good luck!

Horse & Jockey Welfare at Uttoxeter

Nothing matters more to us when racing than the safety and welfare of both horse and rider. Central to that is the track itself and our groundstaff do everything in their power to provide an optimum racing surface. On duty today we also have a dedicated and experienced team of highly-qualified Vets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage. Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site We also have a high-specification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary. Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today. To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website www.uttoxeter-racecourse.co.uk

STAR RATINGS EXPLAINED

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

ëëëëë Selected to win the race

ëëëëê Good chance of being placed

ëëëêê By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.

ëëêêê Unlikely to win but not totally without hope

ëêêêê Can be given little or no chance

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions

A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances) The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non handicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

Virtual Rock showed a similar level of form on the level to the selection and is feared most ahead of Guard Duty.

ABOUT TWO MILES (1M 7F 168YDS) FOR THREE YRS OLD AND UPWARDS

THE UTTOXETER RACECOURSE CARAVAN AND MOTORHOME SITE HANDICAP HURDLE RACE (CLASS 5) (DIV II)

Total prize fund

£6150 œ Owners Prize Money. 1st £2484, 2nd £1242, 3rd £621, 4th £311, 5th £155. (Penalty Value £3247.81)

LEADING COURSE TRAINER (19-24): O Murphy (43 wins from 196 runners, 22%) runs DOUBLE OBAN TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): A West (2 wins from 14 runners, 14%) runs BAIKAL

WEIGHTWATCHER: RAZZO ITALIANO won off a handicap mark of 85, his rating is now down 6lb to 79. LONGEST TRAVELLER: KING AND QUEEN trained by J J Hanlon, Ireland.

Flat-winner DOUBLE OBAN is taken to make it third time lucky in this sphere. The 4-y-o showed promise in back-to-back novice events at Worcester and makes his handicap debut over hurdles on what could turn out to be a handy mark. Andapa is interesting with her reappearance spin at Plumpton under her belt (and with Harry Cobden booked), while Harry Gulliver’s best days are surely still ahead of him and he also merits respect, along with Chef de Troupe and Sergeant.
