Welcome to Uttoxeter Racecourse for this Sunday afternoon fixture and a particular warm welcome and thank you to our sponsors today; Dave Sargeant and family, Century Racing Club, The Uttoxeter & Cheadle Voice, 4 Oaks Roofing & Facades, The Dolman Family, Richard Marsh and QuinnBet.

It has been over two months since our last meeting on the 28th July, our longest break from racing for somewhile. You might be mistaken in thinking that the team here have had a nice break but this is far from the truth! The main reason for our extended break was due to the drainage works carried out on the course This will hopefully aide us in being able to fulfill our fixtures through the everchallenging wet periods that seem to be more common

The track now has just under 1,500m of new Primary/ Lateral Drains and a bit over 7,000m of new secondary drains (sand slits) The drains and sand slits have been back filled as sports drains not agricultural drains with 2-6mm grit topped with sandy rootzone and seed The drainage areas have all been sand top dressed and then vertidrained for decompaction and levelling

Richard Fothergill as Clerk of the Course along with his Grounds Team then had the challenge of raising the moisture levels for seed germination and grass growth.

Also, with reduced use of the caravan park, we have taken the area on the inside of the course just after the center course pedestrian crossing to create a dedicated Equine Wash Down Area which will be completed shortly.

All works thus far have gone well and will hopefully be of benefit to the course in the long run. With the exception of Fence 3, second last, where further works are required in this problematic area

Today we also welcome around 3000 students from surrounding Universities of Uttoxeter. For many this will be their first visit to ours or any racecourse With attendances at racing remaining fairly stagnant over the last few years we hope to make future fans for our wonderful sport that we love

Our 2025 fixtures have been released and all dates are now available to book. Next up is our Gents Day on Friday 18th October. With plenty of entertainment lined up, its one not to miss

I hope all of our customers have a safe and enjoyable day today with us.

Good Luck!

Horse & Jockey Welfare at Uttoxeter

Nothing matters more to us when racing than the safety and welfare of both horse and rider. Central to that is the track itself and our groundstaff do everything in their power to provide an optimum racing surface. On duty today we also have a dedicated and experienced team of highly-qualified Vets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage. Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site We also have a high-specification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary. Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today. Total prize fund £7700 x Owners Prize Money. 1st £3213, 2nd £1607, 3rd £803, 4th £402. (Penalty Value £4193.42)

LEADING COURSE TRAINER (19-24): F O’Brien (44 wins from 226 runners, 19%) runs INTREPIDE SUD TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): D Skelton (5 wins from 29 runners, 17%) runs JAFIMGOSO FANCY THAT: D Skelton won this race in 2016, 2018 and 2023. The stable runs JAFIMGOSO today. LONGEST TRAVELLER: TIMELY ESCAPE trained by A Dunn, Wellington, 174 miles.

INTREPIDE SUD took a big step forward when third at Exeter in the spring and should have more to offer, so he might be the way to go returning in a maiden where strong cases can’t be made for all that many. Jafimgoso was disappointing on his hurdles debut here in June but is worth another chance for his top yard. Market support for Norn Iron back from a long absence would need noting, while Law of The Sea could have a future in this game.
