STAR RATINGS EXPLAINED Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
ABBREVIATIONS BF - Beaten Favourite C - Course winner D - Distance winner CD - Course & Distance winner
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent orm under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

HOLLYWOOD LADY could have more to come on the back of her close second in a Newbury maiden last time and can make light of an opening mark of 70. The Hughie Morrison yard had one easily win a 3-y-o handicap over this sort of trip at Newbury on Friday so a market move for Pride of Nepal could prove significant. Marsden Cross and Mustang Kodi are also on the shortlist. 1-2-3: 1.HOLLYWOOD LADY 2.PRIDE OF NEPAL 3.MARSDEN CROSS (IRE) KEY Owner colours

WEATHERBYS EPASSPORT STAKES Paul Ferguson
Previously staged at Lingfield, the Weatherbys E-passport Stakes (Registered as The Leisure Stakes) was switched to Windsor in 2001, with the first renewal at its new home won by the Roger Charlton-trained Harmonic Way. He defeated stable-mate Tamarisk by a short-head, with the runner-up having been successful in the contest some three years earlier. Only three at the time, he finished runnerup in the July Cup on his next start, before landing the Sprint Cup at Haydock, highlighting the importance of this race in the sprinting calendar. Having failed to see out the mile in the 2000 Guineas behind King Of Kings, the son of Green Desert was brought back in distance, and this race was used as a springboard to top-level success. More recently, The Tin Man won this race and Haydock’s Sprint Cup in the same season. Following his second victory in this race (2018), he finished fourth in the Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot and third in the Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville, before landing his third Group 1. Bated Breath, who provided Roger Charlton with a third win in a 14-year period when winning the 2011 renewal, was just a nose away from following in their footsteps, narrowly denied at Haydock by Dream Ahead. He would earn his Group 1 stripes at the same track the following May, making him another example of a young sprinter who rose through the ranks, having been winning in handicap company during his three-yearold season. The most recent winner of this race, Dream Of Dreams, is yet another
subsequent Sprint Cup winner, although his victory in the Haydock Group 1 came the following season. Having taken this contest in 2019 (no race last year, due to the suspension of racing) Sir Michael Stoute’s then five-year-old was beaten just a head in the Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot, and after failing to reproduce that form in three subsequent outings, bounced back the following season. Gelded during the winter of 2019, he again went down narrowly in the Diamond Jubilee, before winning Newbury’s Group 2 Hungerford Stakes by seven lengths, which set him up perfectly for his biggest victory to date. Other recent winners of this race to progress into Group-class winning sprinters include Celtic Mill, who sprung a surprise when landing the 2004 renewal, as he did when winning the Group 2
GALLIC LEAGUE Temple Stakes at Sandown some 12 months later. The following year, Baltic King had Celtic Mill back in third when successful for Hughie Morrison and Thurloe Thoroughbreds, and he, too, would return the following year to fill the third placed spot, behind One Putra. Two starts later, Baltic King ran out a decisive winner of the Wokingham at Royal Ascot. Assertive finished only ninth behind One Putra before winning the race 12 months later, and his sole subsequent victory, from a further 16 career starts, came in the Group 2 Duke Of York Stakes the following May. 2008 winner Balthazaar’s Gift is another who won at Group 2 level subsequently, twice in fact. Another who was successful in the following season’s Hungerford Stakes, he also landed the Park Stakes at Doncaster in September 2010. The 2010 winner of this race Triple Aspect won the Group 3 Coral Charge at Sandown two starts later, and although 2009’s winner J J The Jet Plane couldn’t win again in England, his career peaked with victory in the Hong Kong Sprint at Sha Tin, in December 2010. Interestingly, since the switch of venue, there has been no three-year-old winner of the Leisure Stakes, which has been sponsored by Weatherbys since 2014. Seven of that age group have contested the race since 2010, although none in the past three renewals. That certainly wasn’t the case prior to the 2001, with no fewer than 11 of the 19 winners aged three. Those who won this race for the Classic generation include Gallic League, who scored for Barry and Michael Hills in 1988. Whilst he was unable to win again at three, the Robert Sangster-owned son of Welsh Saint was an impressive winner of the Group 3 Ballyogan Stakes at Leopardstown some 13 months later. A precocious sort, he had been a high-class two-year-old, winning the Flying Childers at Doncaster and the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket, on his final outing
as a juvenile. Mister Majestic is another who completed the Middle Park – Leisure Stakes double 12 months earlier. 1991 winner Polish Patriot is another who had contested the Middle Park at two, and although he could finish only fifth behind the Andre Fabre-trained Lycius, he would reverse that form two runs on from his win in this race, when beating that very rival by two lengths in the Group 1 July Cup. He had won Ascot’s Group 3 Cork And Orrey Stakes en route to Newmarket, after which he was retired to stud with an unblemished three-year-old record intact. Two years later Pips Pride provided Richard Hannon Senior with a third win in this race in the space of four years. A chestnut by Efisio – sire of 1000 Guineas heroine Attraction – he was another topclass juvenile, who won the Phoenix Stakes at Leopardstown and finished runner-up in the Middle Park. He won a Group 3 in Germany during the summer of that threeyear-old season, before being retired to stud. He sadly died at the age of six, but his offspring included Pipalong, a mare who relished the mud and enjoyed her finest hour in the aforementioned Sprint Cup at Haydock in 2000, where she had Harmonic Way back in fourth. Although successful in this race at four, as opposed to three, arguably the most significant name on the roll of honour is that of the filly Habibti, who won just the third ever running of the race in 1984. A champion two-year-old, she had won the Lowther Stakes and the Moyglare Stud, and after failing to see out the trip in the Guineas at both Newmarket and in Ireland, her hand was turned to sprinting. Following victories in the July Cup, the Sprint Championship, the Sprint Cup, and the Prix de l’Abbaye, she was awarded multiple Horse Of The Year prizes for 1983, and she won the Leisure Stakes on her reappearance at four before winning the King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot.

An impressive winner of the Haydock Sprint Cup in September, DREAM OF DREAMS is probably best not judged too harshly on his midfield effort in the Champions Sprint on his final start. Having won this in 2019 this looks a good opening for him on return and he can come out on top again. Garrus has looked better than ever this term and can pose the chief threat. 1-2-3: 1.DREAM OF DREAMS (IRE) 2.GARRUS (IRE) 3.DUBAI STATION KEY Owner colours
