Veterinary Care
Horse welfare is a priority at Royal Windsor Racecourse. At every meeting there are two specially qualified Equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all the horses in action. One vet is present at the start of each race and during the race follows the runners in a vehicle. Horses can be attended to in the same time as the Paramedic Teams responsible for treating injured jockeys. The second vet follows the action from the stands and coordinates the required response to any incidents. In addition, throughout the meeting a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race. It is standard policy that in the event of a horse requiring veterinarytreatment whilst on site, screens will be erected around the horse. It is designed to afford the vet and the patient some privacy. Please do not assume the worst.

Star Ratings Explained
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
Official BHA Ratings Explained The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

Don’t miss the Parade of ex-racehorses at 16:40pm this evening at the Parade Ring! About RoR:
The ultimate goal is to maintain a balance between the number of horses leaving Racing and the number of enthusiastic, and suitable, new homes. Clearly not all racehorses go on to star in a different sphere, but RoR hopes that, on seeing what can be done, more riders will think about taking on a racehorse when they are looking for a new horse. This will help racehorse owners and trainers, equine charities, retrainers and, most importantly, the horses to find secure and knowledgeable new homes. Launched by the British Horseracing Board (now the British Horseracing Authority) in April 2000, RoR was awarded charitable status in Autumn 2000. Leading jockeys Richard Johnson and Frankie Dettori were appointed as RoR Ambassadors in April 2015. RoR has seven Trustees, of which four are appointed by the principal contributors to the fund. Two, which includes the Chairman, are appointed by the British Horseracing Authority, and there is one independent Trustee. Sir Anthony McCoy OBE became a patron of RoR in 2016 joining popular TV presenter Clare Balding OBE who has been a patron since 2014. The charity: * raises funds from within the Racing Industry for the retraining and rehoming of former racehorses * provides a safety net for ‘vulnerable’ former racehorses. * promotes the adaptability and versatility of racehorses to other equestrian activities. * runs and funds a well established programme of competitions and educational events across the country. * provides information for owners and trainers in both the Racing and Equine Industries to assist with the rehoming and retraining of their former racehorses.
Colonel Kink
17yo Sire - Monashee Mountain Riden by (Showing) Tracey has owned Colonel Klink for the last 11 years. When he finished racing he went on to play polo, Tracey then bought him for her daughter to do small hacks. He has qualified for RIHS as a hack. He stands only 15 hh and he is very quirky, no two days are the same!! He is currently enjoying a successful showing career and as long as he is happy, sound and enjoying his job he will carry on. They have started doing veteran showing classes and hoping to contest them more next year, when he will be 18 years old. RoR Southern Dressage Champs at Blenheim again in September, storming round the country team chasing with the rest of ‘Ru Pauls Team Chase’ and enjoying some fabulous days out hunting.”
Danetime Panther
17yo Sire - Danetime Ridden Olivia Fforde (Eventing) Danetime Panther won three times on the track before his retirement from racing in 2009, he is owned by Alex Beever who is a former Olympic rower. Initially retrained as an event horse by Ginny Howe and then latterly by Olivia Fforde, Danetime Panther has graduated to British Eventing (BE) novice level. He has also successfully competed in Tattersalls RoR challenge classes, winning the challenge final at the RoR National Championships at Aintree in 2017 and then being crowned overall supreme performance champion.
Just An Idea
7yo Sire - Lilbourne Lad Ridden by Camilla Swift (Hacking) Camilla Swift bought Just an Idea from the Ascot sales in November 2018, and she rode him every day at home. In July 2019 she had her first ride as an amateur on him, finishing third together at Windsor in 2019; he has given Camilla some lovely rides as an amateur and wonderful memories! They began their retraining journey at the beginning of 2021 and Just an Idea has taken everything in his stride with such a level head. At Easter they did a sponsored ride with xc jumps which they loved, and have also been to a few local unaffiliated dressage competitions, polework clinics and clear round showjumping. Hopefully they can continue on our journey together with the aim to do eventing. “He is a lovely horse and owes me nothing so there is no pressure to compete at high levels or do anything he doesn’t enjoy! He loves hacking, outings with his friends, and learning new skills”
Qulinton
17yo Sire - Bulington Ridden by Thea Geake (Showing) Qulinton started his racing career with David Pipe, and latterly Johnny Farrelly. He ran 60 times winning over both fences and hurdles, with winnings totaling almost £100,000. He is an extraordinarily tough and sound horse as well as being very attractive to look at. Since retiring in 2016 he has been very successful as a show horse, together with Thea he was placed third at his first visit to Horse of The Year Show, a great achievement. Over the last year Qulinton has been learning to carry side saddle, which he does with great elegance. Qulinton is quite a character, with some very amusing antics.
Te Amo Te Amo
5yo Sire - Kyllachy Ridden by Tracey Mallon (Eventing) Tracey purchased TE AMO TE AMO on June 2020, from Simon Dow straight out of training as a 4 year old, he then had some out in the field to let down from racing and was brought back into work in October 2020, taking their time in the early stages of his retraining; starting with long reining and lunging. Since then they have been doing lots of hacking, flat work lessons and a small amount of jumping. The plan is to step up ‘Timmy’s’ training with the vision of doing some low level eventing, RoR Regional leagues and RoR showing next year, and hopefully get out drag hunting at the end of this year.
Zarkandar
14yo Sire - Azamour Ridden by Rosie Hopper (All-rounder)
Bred by the Aga Khan and a half-brother to the Arc winning mare Zarkava, Zarkandar, known at home as Gino, was retired in 2018 having won eleven races in an eight-year career. Grade 1 victory at Cheltenham, Aintree and Auteuil helped Zarkandar amass almost £1 million in prize money. Paul Nicholls gifted Zarkandar to Lucinda Sims when he retired and he has adjusted very well to a slower pace of life. He started as Lucinda’s happy hacker and has graduated to dressage and Hunter trials. He has started showing side saddle under Rosie, which he really enjoys and is excelling at.
