WELCOME Good afternoon, The return of racing to Royal Windsor Racecourse is always an early indication that summer is on the way and I would like to welcome you to our first race meeting of 2022 and update you on several innovations that we have introduced for the new season. In celebration of Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee year, the new Jubilee Enclosure will offer racegoers the premium racecourse experience, including the Jubilee Bar and Seafood Lawn. Meanwhile, the Trackside Enclosure will offer an alternative option if you like to get close to the track, incorporating the Sprint Bar and a range of food options, including the Pizza Corner. It will also offer access to all entertainment across the racecourse after racing has finished. Please note today’s fixture is a one enclosure fixture as is the 11th April. For more information on our enclosure changes please visit our website where you will find the necessary detail. Today’s feature event is the Cazoo Handicap, a well-contested sprint won last year by the 2-1 favourite Edraak, trained by Mick Appleby. This year the former champion jockey Silvestre de Sousa was an early booking for the stable’s only entry, Zim Baby, who would therefore be worth noting if taking her place in the line-up. The Cazoo Novice Stakes should give some promising young horses a chance to show that they have wintered well as the new turf season gets underway. Last season, the winner and placed horses went on to contest some competitive handicap races later in the season and we can expect the same this afternoon, with several previous winners entered and a number of top stables represented again. As the summer season begins, we will continue to stage our popular Monday evening themed race meetings, including Irish Night on 13 June, Ladies Day on 20 June, and “Rum and Reggae” Night on 18 July. There will also be a number of live music events, including Madness on 26 August and Ronan Keating after racing on 27 August Along with the rest of my team, I do hope you will enjoy our varied programme of events during the next six months. Liam Johnson Executive Director

VETERINARY CARE Horse welfare is a priority at Royal Windsor Racecourse. At every meeting there are two specially qualified Equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all the horses in action. One vet is present at the start of each race and during the race follows the runners in a vehicle. Horses can be attended to in the same time as the Paramedic Teams responsible for treating injured jockeys. The second vet follows the action from the stands and coordinates the required response to any incidents. In addition, throughout the meeting a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race. It is standard policy that in the event of a horse requiring veterinarytreatment whilst on site, screens will be erected around the horse. It is designed to afford the vet and the patient some privacy. Please do not assume the worst.

STAR RATINGS EXPLAINED Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
ABBREVIATIONS BF - Beaten Favourite C - Course winner D - Distance winner CD - Course & Distance winner
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent orm under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

BERNARDO O’REILLY turned a competitive-looking Doncaster handicap into a one-sided affair last week and on that evidence a 4lb penalty won’t stop the follow up. Inver Park is a big threat on the back of a positive stable switch, with Many A Star also of interest.

SALVATOR MUNDI shaped well when keeping on late into fourth under hand riding at Kempton and this son of Galileo is fancied to take a sizeable step forward now and fend off True Accolade, who also went with some promise when finishing one place ahead of him there and rates a big threat. Newcomer Sooghan catches the eye on paper and is another worth considering, especially if the market speaks in his favour. 1-2-3: 1.SALVATOR MUNDI (IRE) 2.TRUE ACCOLADE 3.SOOGHAN KEY Owner colours
