WELCOME Good afternoon, The Royal Windsor season got off to a busy start last Monday with an eight-race card and now we welcome you to our second April afternoon date before the first evening fixture at the end of the month. Once again, a competitive day on the track is in store and some of the country’s top riders are involved, several of them likely to be in competition for the title of “Champion Jockey” at the conclusion of the season in October. The Cazoo Handicap is a typically competitive Windsor sprint. Last year’s winner Seraphinite was among the early entries, along with the everpopular Stake Acclaim, who has done well at Windsor throughout his long career. Fine Wine and Ooh Is it (a non-runner here last week) are set to bring some strong recent form from the all-weather and, in such an open race, the betting market is likely to be significant. The David Andrews Belated 80th Birthday Celebration Fillies’ Handicap has some progressive-looking young horses in the line up. Godolphin sent out a winner on our opening day, ridden by William Buick, and they could make it two for the season at Windsor on After The Rain if she takes her place in the line-up today. As was the case at last week’s fixture, today will consist of one enclosure open to all racegoers, which will give you a chance to decide which facilities are likely to suit you best at our meetings for the rest of the season, when we will switch to a new two-enclosure format, Jubilee and Trackside. After a break for Easter, we return on the evening of 25 April when we are offering free entry for pre-bookings, with a varied choice of enhanced facilities also available for a small supplementary fee. Full information can be accessed now on the Royal Windsor Racecourse website. Among other options, we can offer you a package that includes the “Royal River”, a stylish arrival at the racecourse by river boat from Windsor Town Centre. I do hope you enjoy your day at the races today and that you will be able to join us throughout the summer for our exciting mix of themed racedays and music specials. Liam Johnson Executive Director

At every meeting there are two specially qualified Equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all the horses in action. One vet is present at the start of each race and during the race follows the runners in a vehicle. Horses can be attended to in the same time as the Paramedic Teams responsible for treating injured jockeys. The second vet follows the action from the stands and coordinates the required response to any incidents. In addition, throughout the meeting a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race. It is standard policy that in the event of a horse requiring veterinarytreatment whilst on site, screens will be erected around the horse. It is designed to afford the vet and the patient some privacy. Please do not assume the worst.

STAR RATINGS EXPLAINED Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

ABBREVIATIONS BF - Beaten Favourite C - Course winner D - Distance winner CD - Course & Distance winner

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent orm under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
