Official Raceday Programme & Form Guide | £3.00
WELCOME Good Afternoon All, The early May Bank Holiday Monday is always a special day for us at Royal Windsor Racecourse as we welcome you to our annual Family Fun Day. It’s an ideal opportunity to introduce new racegoers to a “day at the races”, especially the younger ones, who will find plenty to entertain them both on and off the track. In addition to the racing, we have a funfair, pony rides, facepainting and inflatables in the Family Enclosure, and wherever you are on the racecourse you will find plenty of good things to eat and drink throughout the afternoon. Many of you have already subscribed to our tasty Chip Shop or Pizza Stop Bundles, just two of the treats on offer. The feature race, the Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Handicap, has attracted a competitive line-up of talented milers. William Buick, favourite to become this year’s champion jockey, is the leading rider of the season at Windsor, and he was an early booking for one of the likely favourites, Legendary Day. He’s also expected to partner several other runners during the afternoon, including Maplewood for the in-form trainer Charlie Appleby in the Cazoo Novice Stakes. Several other leading stables are likely to run potential dangers to him though, and there could be some smart young horses on display at this early stage of their careers. Next week we resume our Monday evening programme, which will continue through the summer. There are many attractive packages available, including arrival by river boat from Windsor town centre and the brand-new Barbeque Experience, with your own private table for the evening near the parade-ring. Meanwhile, the 1866 Restaurant offers a unrivalled view of the racing and a delicious three-course meal with Tote betting facilities. I do hope you enjoy all the colour and excitement of our Family Fun Day and please check out our website windsor-racecourse.co.uk to find further information and booking details for your future trips to Windsor.
Best Wishes, Liam Johnson Executive Director

STAR RATINGS EXPLAINED Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
ABBREVIATIONS BF - Beaten Favourite C - Course winner D - Distance winner CD - Course & Distance winner
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent orm under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

This is very trappy indeed. EXCELLENT GEORGE’s latest effort at Kempton was one of his better ones, but he has dipped below his last winning mark and could be worth chancing here. The Defiant shouldn’t be judged too harshly on his recent Lingfield defeat and he was on a roll prior to that. The vote goes to ANTIPHON, who shaped pretty well on his first run for this yard following a 12-week break at Nottingham where he was in the firing line until well inside the final furlong. He’s been eased 2lb since and is entitled to be a little sharper this time. If Gidwa is able to reproduce his recent all-weather form back on turf he will be a real threat in this hat-trick bid, but Mary of Modena, a winner over 5f here last month, is feared most.

LEADING COURSE TRAINER (17-22): C Hills (15 wins from 114 runners, 13%) runs TANMAWWY TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): J G O’Shea (7 wins from 14 runners, 50%) runs BOLLY BULLET & MAJESKI MAN LONGEST TRAVELLER: SILENT FLAME trained by R Millman, Cullompton, 149 miles. RACE SUMMARY
The lion’s share of these are pretty exposed, but that comment does not apply to TANMAWWY. Indeed, the 4-y-o has just two runs under his belt and, likely to be all the better for his comeback run at Leicester last month, he is appealing back at 6f for this handicap debut. Treacherous usually plies his trade in stronger handicaps than this and is next on the list ahead of SIlent Flame and recent Salisbury scorer Majeski Man.

SEVENTH RACE 5.45 ONE MILE THREE FURLONGS ABOUT 99 YARDS (11F ABT 99YDS) FOR THREE YRS OLD
THE WATCH CHESTER ON SKY SPORTS RACING HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) Total race value £6100 x Owners Prize Money. 1st £2347, 2nd £1173, 3rd £587, 4th £293, 5th £240, 6th £240. (Penalty Value £2970) SS RACE STATS
LEADING COURSE TRAINER (17-22): G Scott (4 wins from 40 runners, 10%) runs ANOTHER ODYSSEY TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): A West (4 wins from 16 runners, 25%) runs GILBERT AND RITA RANA LONGEST TRAVELLER: WHATASURPRIZE trained by A Hales, Edgecote, 67 miles. RACE SUMMARY Though he doesn’t appear entirely straightforward and is hitherto untried on turf, THE WRITER is the most appealing of these. He was just touched off on his second run in handicap company at Wolverhampton and a 2lb rise for that near miss looks fair. Another Odyssey was fifth in that same race and may get closer to the selection with cheekpieces enlisted here, while Rita Rana and Mutara are others to consider. 1-2-3: 1.THE WRITER 2.ANOTHER ODYSSEY 3.RITA RANA (IRE) KEY Owner colours
