E VE N I N G RAC I N G M O N 23 M AY Official Raceday Programme & Form Guide | RRP £3

WELCOME Dear All, As we welcome you to our latest Monday evening date at Windsor, the weather is looking a lot better than on this day last year, when the meeting was called off because of heavy rain! The centrepiece of the card is another qualifier for the Fitzdares Sprint series, which leads to a grand final in August. Classic-winning trainer George Boughey could have a successful evening with Navello in this race. Next Monday we invite you join us at the Gin & Acoustic Race night, with a wide array of exotic cocktails available around the racecourse and local bands playing on the Jubilee Lawn. A variety of packages are available through our website windsor-racecourse.co.uk including earlybird ticket price reductions and further savings for groups of four. Thoughts now turn to The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, and there can’t be many places more fitting to celebrate this historic occasion than Royal Windsor Racecourse. At the Regal Garden Party Race Night on 6 June there will be live music and plenty of Pimm’s for your evening refreshment. Further into the month we stage some of our most popular themed race meetings of the season, featuring Irish Night on 13 June, Ladies Night on 20 June and Gentleman’s Day on the first day of our annual three-day Festival, Saturday 25 June. It’s a sure sign that midsummer really is on the way! I hope you have an enjoyable and successful evening and that you will be able to join us again soon.

Best Wishes, Liam Johnson Executive Director

STAR RATINGS EXPLAINED Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

ABBREVIATIONS BF - Beaten Favourite C - Course winner D - Distance winner CD - Course & Distance winner

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent orm under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

SILKS PASS wasn’t seen to best effect on return/handicap debut at Leicester and, open to improvement with that pipe-opener under his belt and over this new trip, Darryll Holland’s charge earns the vote. Banana is interesting judged on her 2-y-o exploits, as is Obtain back down in class after contesting a listed race. However, bigger threats may be posed by handicap-debutant Aphelios and Whistledown, who is relatively exposed but is pretty reliable.

FOURTH RACE 6.40 ABOUT FIVE FURLONGS (5F ABT 21YDS) FOR THREE YRS OLD

LEADING COURSE TRAINER (17-22): C Cox (26 wins from 177 runners, 15%) runs RUM COCKTAIL TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): G Boughey (8 wins from 28 runners, 29%) runs NAVELLO FANCY THAT: C Cox won this race in 2017 and 2019. The stable runs RUM COCKTAIL today. LONGEST TRAVELLER: RESILIENCE trained by T Carroll, Cropthorne, 105 miles. RACE SUMMARY

This doesn’t look as strong as the Chester handicap in which NAVELLO was fourth earlier this month and, now 2lb lower, he gets the nod. High Velocity presumably didn’t handle the slow ground at Thirsk and, promising prior to that, he will be a big threat if able to get back on track. Still, Navello may have most to fear from Rum Cocktail, who showed plenty of ability as a 2-y-o and brings potential to this handicap debut.

LONGEST TRAVELLER: LILANDRA trained by J Flint, Bridgend, 147 miles. RACE SUMMARY

MERWEB cashed in on his lowly mark switched to turf at Bath a month ago and, possessing handicap scope on old form, is perhaps up to following up. Limelighter is a previous course winner and with stamina his forte is likely to be boxing on, while No Such Luck should be a factor at this level. 1-2-3: 1.MERWEB (IRE) 2.LIMELIGHTER 3.NO SUCH LUCK (IRE) KEY Owner colours
