E VE N I N G RAC I N G M O N 30 M AY Official Raceday Programme & Form Guide | £3
WELCOME As we welcome you to our Gin & Acoustic Race Night, Royal Windsor Racecourse enters the main part of its summer programme with an exciting range of themed racedays during the next three months. Tonight you can relax between races with a gin cocktail and enjoy live music on the lawn with the popular acoustic band, the Ukulele Ladies. There will also be a mouthwatering variety of street food stalls in the vicinity, along with a close-up view of the horses as they parade for each race. A week ago, Kieran Shoemark rode an impressive four winners and two seconds from just seven rides. He’s due to be in action at Royal Windsor again today and it looks like being another busy evening for him. The in-form jockey is booked to ride in both of our feature races: the latest qualifier in the Fitzdares Sprint Series Handicap, a competitive race over five furlongs leading to a grand final in August; and the mileand-a-quarter At The Races App Market Movers Handicap. Next Monday we will celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee at the Pimm’s Regal Garden Party Race Night, with vintage rock and pop music from our roaming brass band and British Jubilee-themed food. It’s the perfect excuse to round off what’s sure to be a spectacular weekend of celebrations. There are many other feature days to come later in the month, including Irish Night (13 June), Ladies Evening (20 June) and our annual three-day festival (25-27 June). Booking details, with full information about the packages available, can be found on our website windsor-racecourse.co.uk.

STAR RATINGS EXPLAINED Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
ABBREVIATIONS BF - Beaten Favourite C - Course winner D - Distance winner CD - Course & Distance winner
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent orm under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

BEAR PROFIT and Chief White Face have both shown a good deal of promise on the all-weather, particularly the former who was a taking winner on debut at Chelmsford and wasn’t seen to best effect next time. This step up to 6f is unlikely to be an issue for the Stuart Williams-trained colt and he’ll take plenty of stopping. David Loughnane’s 2-y-os have made a bright start to the season and GUITEAU could be another winning youngster for the yard. He is closely-related to Pearl Glory, who won twice as a juvenile last season (also runner-up in a Group 3), and an entry in the Weatherbys Super Sprint suggests that he’s been showing up well at home. Raducanu made a promising start to her career over C&D a fortnight ago and she is the clear pick of those with experience. Dresden Green and Dhariye are others to note.

LESTER PIGGOTT (1935 - 2022) For many of you here this evening, Lester Piggott will have been the finest, most celebrated, jockey of our lifetime. Others will say he was outstandingly the definitive name in horse racing; not just during his own golden era in the saddle, but in the history of the sport. His 4,493 career winners, including nine victories in the Derby at Epsom, set the standard for top-class jockeyship in Flat racing and his legacy still resonates today. Lester was a regular visitor to Royal Windsor Racecourse throughout his career, riding in hurdle races as well as on the Flat. Never far from controversy or the winner's enclosure, he experienced one of his most famous moments on the track in May 1974 when his mount Campanologist unseated him near the winning post. Despite Piggott's protests that he was over the line before parting company with the horse, the judge named Tamerboy as the winner, and there was no photo-finish to prove otherwise. But, in typical Lester fashion, he quickly brushed off the disappointment, riding a treble and a four-timer at Windsor later in the year. His last winner at Windsor was on 28 June 1993, with Barahin winning a selling race - 45 years after his first winner at the course, also in a seller. It's a tribute to his professionalism and will to win that he could be seen in races from the bottom of the racing tree right to the very top. The show will go on. But, with the loss of such a monumental figure in the sport of horse racing, whose skill and durability was admired by everyone who ever knew his name, it's also true to say that it will never be quite the same again.

LONGEST TRAVELLER: ENDOWED & WINNETKA trained by T Carroll, Cropthorne, 105 miles. RACE SUMMARY
The hat-trick beckons for PURE DREAMER, who has displayed a useful turn of foot in winning handicaps at Lingfield and Leicester this month and, with just seven runs under his belt, the best is surely yet to come. Spring Bloom has won just one of his 18 career starts, but he’s otherwise hard to knock and this 5-y-o is likely to be in the thick of things once again. Media Guest makes each-way appeal, a remark which also applies to Concierge.

Though MINE’S A DOUBLE appeared to take a backward step from his reappearance effort when seventh at Ascot, he was probably still in need of the run and this lightly-raced colt makes plenty of appeal based on the promise of his unbeaten 3-y-o campaign. LEADING COURSE TRAINER (17-22): R Hannon (57 wins from 330 runners, 17%) runs MOUNT KOSCIUSZKO TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): C Cox (5 wins from 29 runners, 17%) runs ADATORIO FANCY THAT: C Cox won this race in 2018 and 2019. The stable runs ADATORIO today. LONGEST TRAVELLER: TWILIGHT TONE trained by R Millman, Cullompton, 149 miles. RACE SUMMARY
The cards didn’t fall right for MOUNT KOSCIUSZKO at Redcar last time and the suspicion remains that he is capable of better. Richard Hannon’s charge is taken to confirm that impression by opening his account here. Dangerous Rascal is feared most having shaped as though moving up to this trip would be a good thing when a never-nearer third over 7f at Kempton. Eklil will surely be on the premises, while Adatorio also enters calculations and Chequer Square is open to improvement. 1-2-3: 1.MOUNT KOSCIUSZKO 2.DANGEROUS RASCAL (IRE) 3.EKLIL KEY Owner colours
