WELCOME Afternoon All, Following the long Bank Holiday weekend commemorating The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, we are delighted to welcome you to the Pimm’s Regal Garden Party Race Night at Royal Windsor Racecourse, offering delicious British-themed food with our roaming brass band playing vintage rock and pop music. The Reading Pipe Band will perform prior to racing, and the Welsh Guards and ten Falklands Veterans will be in attendance from across the UK, marking the 40th anniversary of the Falklands campaign. If you would like to support the Royal British Legion’s fundraising, a Poppy Appeal gazebo will be located on the lawn, where you can purchase Falkland Island and Jubilee pin badges. The centrepiece of today’s card is the Fitzdares Sprint Series Handicap, the latest qualifier for a valuable sprint final in August. Meanwhile, for those of you who like to follow in-form jockeys, Rossa Ryan and William Carson (who rode a double at Brighton last Tuesday) both appear to have have a good book of rides this evening. Next Monday it’s Irish Race Night followed by Ladies Evening on 20 June, two of the most popular dates in our summer calendar, with a live music concert after racing on both days. You can find information and booking details for those and all future fixtures on our website, windsor-racecourse.co uk, with a variety of dining packages available. Later in the month we are staging our annual three-day Festival, starting with Gentleman’s Day on the afternoon of Saturday 25 June. If you would like to travel in style to and from any of our race meetings, we can recommend the scenic river boat journey from Windsor Town Centre, which arrives just a few yards from the racecourse entrance! In the meantime I do hope you enjoy an exciting evening at the conclusion of this very special period of celebration. Best Wishes, Liam Johnson Executive Director

STAR RATINGS EXPLAINED Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
ABBREVIATIONS BF - Beaten Favourite C - Course winner D - Distance winner CD - Course & Distance winner
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent orm under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

The RBL’s 40th Anniversary commemorations will honour and remember the service of the 30,000 sailors, marines, soldiers, airmen and merchant mariners who participated in the Falklands War, the many civilians who supported the war effort, and the 255 British personnel who sadly lost their lives. All veterans, civilians and bereaved family members involved in the conflict are invited to our event at the National Memorial Arboretum on 14 June. The commemorations there will recognise and take pride in the service of the Falklands generation, and we encourage those who served and lost loved ones to join us to reconnect and remember together. There are veterans of the Falklands War who still struggle today with physical and mental scars from the campaign. The RBL remains committed to ensuring that service and sacrifice in more recent conflicts is recognised and that all generations of the Armed Forces community know the RBL is here to support them, for life. The Royal British Legion’s Assistant Director of Operations Nicola Cook said, “40 years on from the Falklands War the RBL is still supporting many veterans and their families living with the physical and mental health challenges caused by their service in the conflict. For some the battle with painful memories and experiences is only just beginning and we are still being approached by people who served in the Falklands who need our help. “Most Falklands veterans live a full and active life but for some the lack of connection to those they served with and who understand their experiences can lead to isolation and loneliness. Some are living with the consequences of the conflict and find it difficult to ask for support. We would urge any Falklands veterans, and their families, who need support to contact the RBL. It’s never too soon or too late to ask the RBL for help.” Falklands War Veterans in Attendance Today: Scottish Guards: Jim Gillanders Kenny McGovern Billy Rumney Graham Rennie Martin Turner Liston Swaney

RACE SUMMARY THE MAD MONK can quickly bounce back in a very winnable event, with the return to a mile likely to be in his favour. McQueen was perhaps unlucky not to go even closer at Wolverhampton last time and looks the biggest danger, ahead of the largely consistent Aurelia Gold.
