MONDAY 25 JULY windsor-racecourse.co.uk

WELCOME Dear All, As we move on from the excitement of yesterday’s annual Gentleman’s Day, the second day of this year’s three-day Royal Windsor Festival offers a perfect summer combination of live music and horse racing, in which today’s feature event is the Handicap, a competitive five furlong sprint. Music plays a central part of the summer season at Windsor, and this is a good time to update you on two of our top events of the year. On Friday 26 August the legendary band Madness will be staging a standalone concert at the racecourse. There’s no racing that day but tickets are bound to be in great demand and we recommend booking early to make sure of your ticket. The following day, another top name from the world of music, Ronan Keating, will be playing on the lawn after racing. The action on the track will begin late afternoon that day and once again a large attendance is expected, so please head to www.windsor-racecourse.co.uk for further information. Throughout the season we can offer you a variety of packages to suit your taste, including special meal deals and arrival at the racecourse by river boat from Windsor Town Centre. If you like to dine in style, the 1866 Restaurant may be the ideal place for you, with a classy three-course meal at your own table for the day, and panoramic view of the action. Tomorrow we return for the final day of the Festival, the Prosecco Party Race Night. At the end of what is certain to be a bubbly evening, the UK’s Number 1 Pink tribute artist, Vicky Jackson, will be in concert on the lawn after racing. For over a decade Vicky has been wowing audiences worldwide with her uncannily accurate portrayal of the American Grammy Award-winning singer, and we are sure she will make it an evening to remember. For now though, we hope you enjoy the Summer Sounds on offer today and that the racing provides you with some winners on this special Sunday afternoon at Windsor.

Best Wishes, Liam Johnson Executive Director

STAR RATINGS EXPLAINED Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

ABBREVIATIONS BF - Beaten Favourite C - Course winner D - Distance winner CD - Course & Distance winner

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent orm under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

KIND GESTURE has made a promising start to her career and this looks a good opportunity for her to follow up from her Wetherby success. RACE SUMMARY

KIRILENKO hasn’t been able to justify market support on her last 2 starts, but she should be able to get off the mark now making her handicap debut. The form of her third at Kempton (Prenup in fourth) last year looks strong with the winner finishing runner-up in the Sandringham, so she is preferred to Rose Barton who can go well again. Prenup also makes her handicap bow and can step forward from her return.
