GENTS DAY saturday 1 july “SIMPLY UNMISSABLE” FEATURING DJ SET LIVE AFTER RACING windsor-racecourse.co.uk
WELCOME
Dear All,
Last week saw Royal Windsor racecourse at its finest, with a large attendance enjoying music from the‘90s and competitive racing on a warm sunny evening in our beautiful setting on the banks of the River Thames. Moments like these are why we have become known as the Home of Monday Night Racing!
Today we move on a decade, and the post-racing theme is music from the‘00s. Broadcaster, artist and producer DJ Spoony will be on the paddock lawn stage just a few minutes after the last race Wherever you’ve based yourself during the evening you’re welcome to join in the party, with the street food stalls and bars remaining open during the show.
Next weekend we bring you our annual midsummer festival, offering you three days of entertainment, each with a different flavour. Saturday is Gentlemen’s Day, with one of our 2023 headline acts Sigma providing the music; Sunday (also in the afternoon) is our third Family Fun Day of the Year featuring children’s favourite Blippi; and in the traditional Monday evening slot it’s Jazz and Funk Racenight.
Tickets are available now on our website, windsor-racecourse.co.uk, offering packages like the Club Fish and Fizz and the BBQ Experience, along with tables in the panoramic 1866 Restaurant and return trips by riverboat from the town centre There’s also a multi-day pass called The Weekender, which will save you £25 on a booking for all three days.
Looking further ahead, we have a big day lined up for you on Saturday 29 July, when it’s Ladies Evening, with high fashion complementing the action on the track. Advance bookings are available for this fixture online, and at the same time you can study a calendar of events at the racecourse that will help you choose the days you’d particularly like to attend.
The racing tonight includes the latest qualifier in the Fitzdares Sprint Series, which has already provided us with plenty of excitement as it builds up to the final on 7 August. I wish you good fortune in choosing the successful horses during the next few hours and hope you will return to see us again soon.
Best wishes,
Liam Johnson Executive Director

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent orm under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

This looks wide open and there are plenty of ifs and buts to ponder Perhaps RECKON I’M HOT will open his account at the twentieth time of asking having produced one of his best efforts to date (and by far his best on turf) when just touched off at Bath last month. Peachey Carnehan and Forever Dreaming are nominated as the main dangers, largely owing to the fact that dropping back to 6f may not help Penny Be, while Sir Sedric andThegreatestshowman both need to turn things around

Ready preference is for the filly ALPINA EXPRESS, who made it 2-2 in handicaps/on turf when scoring with plenty left in the tank at Carlisle last week. RACE SUMMARY
Hard to see past the two winners, Thaydah Athbah and Thakeera Al Shahania who both made their debuts in Belgium in January. Both are considered likely Derby types by connections and on what they have shown so far, look open to plenty of improvement and should stay further. Thaydah Athbah is a big framed filly and so the narrow preference is for THAKEERA AL SHAHANIA who is a more compact model for whom this course is more likely to suit. James Owen’s team is in great form and Victoria may prove the most value each way.

WathbaStallions Cup
The HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Racing Festival has played a significant role in the promotion of Arabian racing and breeding around the world since it began in 2009, aiming to continue the efforts made by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan to preserve heritage sports and equestrian sport in particular.
Currently sponsoring eight races in the UK, globally the Festival supports a wide variety of contests from the grassroots to the highest level, which culminates in the Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Jewel Crown, aGroup 1 PA run in Abu Dhabi in December, which was worth £1.1 million in 2022.
