WELCOME
As we reach the month of October, the 2023 season at Royal Windsor enters its final three meetings before the winter break. I would like to thank all of you for supporting us through another successful campaign.
The closing dates of every summer season at the racecourse have a tradition of large fields and highly competitive racing, and this year is likely to be no exception, so we wish you good luck in finding the winners!
As the autumn progresses, we will also see a number of young inexperienced horses running in the maiden and novice races, with a view to gaining some vital experience with next season in mind. A trip to the parade ring can, therefore, be very helpful as we attempt to spot the potential stars of 2024.
Last season’s top jockey at Windsor, Tom Marquand, has had another profitable campaign, and we will give you regular updates concerning the state of play in this year’s championship. Tom won the title in 2022 with four winners on the last day of the season, so there’s still plenty to play for.
After today, we are racing again in the afternoon on the next two Mondays. The last date of the season, on 23 October, will have complimentary entry for early online bookings, so please visit our website windsor-racecourse.co.uk for details of how to apply and for the special raceday packages that are also available
Next year will be a particularly exciting time for us as we welcome jump racing back to Royal Windsor alongside our traditional summer programme. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy the fine October weather as the 2023 season reaches the home straight.
Best wishes

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

The vote goes to BIG BARD, who was just touched off in this race last year and the first of his three wins this season was gained over C&D in April (sole previous occasion that he has been partnered by Alec Voikhansky). The 5-y-o wasn’t seen to best effect at Bath when last seen in August, so shouldn’t be judged too harshly on that display. Porterinthejungle can also be forgiven for a below par effort last time and she is next on the list ahead of Corinthia Knight and hat-trick seeker On Edge
