SATURDAY 4NOVEMBER windsor-racecourse.co.uk

WELCOME As the 2023 season reaches its final day, we welcome all of you who have taken up our offer of complimentary entry to the racecourse this afternoon, with many of our regular facilities still in operation despite the time of year. With a highly competitive card featuring a number of hotly-contested handicaps, there’s plenty to enjoy as the curtain comes down on another season. Maybe you will take one final trip to the attractive tree-lined parade ring to help you find a concluding winner or two before we head into winter quarters! Today we will be announcing the Royal Windsor top trainers and jockeys of the last six months, so listen out to find whose names are on this year’s roll of honour. Whoever the champions may turn out to be, we would like to thank all racing professionals for their support during the year. The 2024 fixture list will be similar to 2023, with the ever-popular Monday night meetings again being a centrepiece of the summer programme alongside the occasional weekend or Bank Holiday and a Racing League date in August. A full calendar can be viewed on our website windsor-racecourse.co.uk In the meantime, tickets may be booked now for a spectacular fireworks evening at the racecourse on Saturday 4 November. This year’s theme is Night of Colours, with dining packages and riverboat arrival at the racecourse available online alongside information about all the other treats on offer from 5 till 9pm. We would like to thank every one of you for visiting us during the 2023 season. The team at Royal Windsor are are already looking forward to seeing you again in the New Year, when jump racing will be returning for the first time in two decades. Best wishes The Windsor Team

TH A NK YOU TO OUR SPONSOR S The Racecourse Executive would like to thank our sponsors today.

STAR RATINGS EXPLAINED Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

ABBREVIATIONS BF - Beaten Favourite C - Course winner D - Distance winner CD - Course & Distance winner

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

A deserved first taste of success could be on the cards for HAKUNA BABE, who hasn’t done much since switched to handicaps, including when third off the mark at Nottingham last month. She is taken to strike with the in-form Hollie Doyle doing the steering. The step up to 1 3/4m was a bridge too far for Miller Spirit last time and he is strongly respected back down in trip. Ellexis should be winning soon if building on her back-to-form second at Chelmsford, but she is unproven on slow ground.

RACE SUMMARY A few with chances but KORKER looks on a good mark reverted to handicaps on the back of a good Ascot Listed second so edges the vote. Chipstead came home fifth in that race and merits consideration too along with 3-time C&D winner Spoof and the consistent Navello.

LEADING COURSE TRAINER (18-23): R Varian (16 wins from 71 runners, 23%) runs DUBAI DREAMER TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): R Varian (6 wins from 34 runners, 18%) runs DUBAI DREAMER WEIGHTWATCHER: DARVEL won off a handicap mark of 72, his rating is now down 7lb to 65. LONGEST TRAVELLER: RIVAL trained by J Flint, Bridgend, 147 miles. RACE SUMMARY

Though DARVEL isn’t the most reliable, he is appealing on the back of a solid effort at Bath where he found only an upwardly mobile rival too strong. The 5-y-o is taken to go one better here, perhaps at the chief expense of the consistent Roundabout Silver, who also hit the crossbar on that same card as the selection at Bath 3 weeks ago. Kynsa and Astronomica both arrive in good heart, too, while Dubai Dreamer is also accorded respect. 1-2-3: 1.DARVEL (IRE) 2.ROUNDABOUT SILVER 3.KYNSA (IRE) KEY Owner colours

TILT AT WINDMILLS got the job done at the ninth time of asking at Bath last week and, with similar conditions expected here, she looks capable of defying a penalty. Oh So Audacious has won two of her last three starts, one of which was registered over this C&D in July and she is high on the shortlist, for all that she’s untried on ground this slow. Magical Dragon, who narrowly prevailed at Lingfield, is also worthy of consideration.

ARABIAN HORSE ORGANIZATION CHALLENGE CUP Total race value £4,000 | Owners Prize Money. 1st £2,061, 2nd £966.80, 3rd £483.60, 4th £241.60, 5th £120.80, 6th £60.40

RACE SUMMARY The unraced horses look the ones to note, with all three posting solid claims on breeding, however success for Phil Collington will clinch the trainers title for him. Mutwahhej Athbah’s dam and half sister were early types, but the narrow preference is for GARMOOSHA. Collington trained her dam to win a Group 3PA at this distance, a trip at which Garmoosha’s sire excelled, though with both his runners, easy ground is an unknown. Of the younger horses with experience, Coljani has claims but has been in and out of form this season, so Sassy may represent some each way value thanks to her useful jockeys’allowance.
