WELCOME

As we head towards the end of April, although the weather has been on the fresh side so far, it has been an excellent start to the Royal Windsor season, with last Monday’s impressive winner Deira Mile setting a high standard for a novice race at the track

We can look forward to following his progress throughout the next few months, while another novice race winner - Kaadi, the first leg of a double for trainer Karl Burke and jockey Clifford Lee - showed her potential by justifying favouritism on only her second outing

Today we stage an evening card for the second week running and the forecast milder weather will help to take us towards our first feature meeting of the year - the Bank Holiday Family Fun Day, next Monday during the afternoon, with additional entertainment to complement the racing.

With a free funfair, face-painting and a Shetland Pony race, there will be plenty to keep the youngsters amused, but it’s also a perfect opportunity to treat all members of the family to a trip at the races, even if they’ve never been before. By the end of the day, we hope they’ll be fans for life!

Tickets are available for all future dates from our website, www.windsor-racecourse.co.uk, along with information about meal packages and table bookings in the panoramic 1866 Restaurant. You may also like to arrange a riverboat trip from the town centre and disembark at the racecourse’s own jetty.

2024 promises to be an exciting year for all of us, with top DJs in attendance on Saturdays and live music on the lawn during our peak-season themed Monday evenings We hope you will be able to accompany us on our journey as the days become longer and warmer, and summer finally arrives.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

DARK DREAMER showed much improved form to get off the mark on return/handicap debut at Kempton earlier this month and with further progress on the cards, Robert Cowell’s charge can double his tally at the expense of Chiedozie, who was placed on both starts in handicaps last month and switches back to turf. MEMORIAL MAIDEN STAKES

We are delighted to be sponsoring this race in memory of our beloved parents Jean and Leslie.

Our father Leslie had a long association with Royal Windsor racecourse since the 1960s, being the William Hill on-course representative and company Director. Our mother Jean had an equal love of racing and they owned several successful racehorses over the years.

ey had a long and happy marriage and celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary in 2012 and lived into their 90s.

We have treasured memories of very happy times and hope you enjoy the race being run in their memory.

Cinque Verde arrives in good form from the all-weather and isn’t taken lightly, while Mary of Modena is also one to note.
