WELCOME
The Royal Windsor summer officially begins this evening in the form of our top meeting of the year so far - the Summer Opening Party, with BBC Radio DJ Vernon Kay providing the music on the paddock lawn after the final race
After you have collected your winnings from the Tote and bookmakers, head to the stage near the parade ring to enjoy Vernon’s set with some of the most popular songs and tunes of recent decades. The nearby bars and catering outlets will remain open so you can enjoy supper and beverages as the sun goes down.
Later in the summer, Saturday will continue to be a major part of the 2024 calendar, featuring some of our biggest days of the year - look out for Ladies Day on 29 June, Gents Evening on 3 August (including a post-racing DJ set from Chris Moyles of Radio X) and BBC Radio 2’s drivetime presenter Sara Cox on the decks at the Summer Closing Party on 24 August
Our next meeting, though, is in the familiar Monday evening slot as the full musical summer sequence begins with‘80s Retro Explosion (3 June) and Irish Night (10 June). Other highlights later in the season will be Abba Racenight (1 July) and An Evening with Queen (29 July), with a variety of themes taking us all the way through to mid-August
The easiest way to secure your place for any of our dates is through the website www.windsor-racecourse.co.uk with discounts available for group bookings You can also opt for meal packages, a table in the panoramic 1866 Restaurant or arrival at the racecourse by riverboat from the town centre - a classy journey to the races by any standards.
On the track tonight we have some quality racing as well, highlighted by the Download The Racecourse App Raceday Ready Handicap, a five furlong sprint, and the mile-and-a-quarter Sri Lanka Paradise Island Handicap. So, at long last, it’s all systems go - and the summer of‘24 is finally here!

STAR RATINGS EXPLAINED
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race
HHHHI Good chance of being placed.
HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

BF - Beaten Favourite
C - Course winner
D - Distance winner
CD - Course & Distance winner
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

TARJEEH clearly hasn’t been the easiest to train but he evidently possesses plenty of ability, taking his career record to 2 wins from 3 starts when successful at Wolverhampton in October. Open to further progress now handicapping, he gets the vote to make light of another absence.
