WELCOME

Everybody loves an outdoor rendezvous at this time of year, and Monday nights at Royal Windsor are synonymous with the concept, so this evening you are cordially invited to our Summer Garden Party.

In the best traditions of our raceday programme there will be live music provided by the Ultimate Party Central Band on the paddock lawn after the final trophy presentation, with the nearby catering facilities remaining open to supply a perfect end to the day.

Earlier, with a unique Alice in Wonderland theme providing a kaleidoscope of colour and a visual feast of entertainment all evening, don’t be surprised if you are joined by crazy characters like the Mad Hatter, the March Hare or even Alice herself as you work out your selection for the next race!

On the track we have the latest qualifier in the Fitzdares Sprint Series, leading to the valuable final in August This enduring annual competition has already been taking shape during the last month, and tonight’s heat is a six furlong event for older horses, with many familiar names involved.

Next week we introduce a fun new idea - the Royal After Party, followed by a brief switch to Saturday afternoon for Ladies Day on 29 June. Then it’s back to Mondays on 1 July for Abba Racenight, which is certain to be one of the most popular concerts that we stage all year

Instant booking facilities, and information about individually tailored meal and travel packages, are available on our website www.windsor-racecourse.co.uk so, with the summer of 2024 now nearing the “longest day” we hope you will be able to join us again soon for your next special Monday evening out

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

The manner of QUEEN’S GUARD’s recent success at Lingfield suggested that this 7lb higher mark may prove within her reach. She is taken to confirm that impression by going in again here, with Jimmy Speaking likely to emerge as the chief threat if able to put last week’s low-key Kempton effort behind him. Beyond Borders and The Good Biscuit can do battle for minor honours

WEIGHTWATCHER: EXCEL POWER won off a handicap mark of 92, his rating is now down 5lb to 87. LONGEST TRAVELLER: METABOLT trained by D Loughnane, Tern Hill, 153 miles.

The vote goes to NAP HAND, who proved that plenty of the ability he showed in 2022 remains intact when putting in good late work to finish fifth in a 12-runner Kempton handicap last month. The 4-y-o was returning from a year-and-a-half off that day, so he’s entitled to take a step forward here. Metabolt is an obvious threat having hit the target at Leicester recently, while High Spirited, though not the most reliable of types, is also accorded respect.
